parkrun has been the the most successful collaboration in my part of the world, that I have seen for a while. I have been involved with maybe different work organisations and sporting clubs over the years. All have tried very hard to keep people engaged and active but parkrun wins hand down and it is totally free.
I have been parkrunning for 12 years now and have completed 503 Saturday morning events in 9 different countries across 140 locations. Even though I am getting a bit older and slower now I am still running strong, feeling fit, healthy and have built some good social connections.
parkrun started in England, then it started to spread. This not for profit organisation has a few sponsors to pay for a few offices around the world and the result emails but other than that it is all put together by local volunteers.
I remember when there was only one event near me but now there are six, a few of them get busy but it is not all pain sailing.
There are so many events now to choose from. They struggle to get enough volunteers to operate smoothly. It seems to take a lot of smart collaboration between the run directors and local communities to get everything sorted each week. None of the volunteer roles are that hard but it does take giving up some of our time and being in a certain spot at a certain time.
I usually wear my Hive running singlet and try to talk to somebody new each week to try and spread the blockchain world.
