Most societies or groups of people living together in a small areas need rules. Small groups can get get away with common sense and I would like to think that big groups could too but the bigger the group the more chance there is of people that will struggle to fit in and some people just want to do there own thing.
Covid times are the perfect example of rules or guidelines placed on the community. I cant remember how many of our rules were actually legislated on by parliament but there were lots of rules and statements being throw around daily.
We were pretty lucky in covid as it took a bit longer for it to reach the Island nation of Australia. I would have thought they had plenty of time to make a decent plan but when it kicked off we had National rules and a different set of rules for each state.
There was lots of grey areas between all these rules too the media was having a great time. I sort of bend some rules to suit myself. Once I did one workout outside that lasted 22 hours and justified to myself by saying it was always with 50 km of my residence. I had heard of a cyclist getting fined for doing long rides outside of there 50 kilometre limit without a good reason.
It was interesting to see the way people reacted to these rules especially the mask wearing and vaccinations. Some just refused, other felt like they had no option because of work. The situation actually split one of my running groups up and its now two different groups. Half of my running community thought we just should not be out at all in groups and the other half was happy just continue within the grey areas in the guidelines.
For me it just all comes down to common sense.
