Hello friends in Queer Community, It is another week for the Queer Contest #147 and its all about Change.
In this article, after thinking about how much people (you and I) underestimate the Power of Change. At times we think that we need a lot of people to start something but the truth is that all we need is just the right set of people with the right minds to activate the change we need.
I will be taking each question one at a time to deliberate on this topic.
How many people do you think it takes to make an impact on society and bring about change?
In my view, it’s not about the number of people it take but about the willingness to make an impact in the society
When I reflect on history—world wars, civil rights marches, trade, feminism, climate activism, etc, they didn’t begin with millions. They started with a group of determined individuals committed to a cause. Those first voices, those first actions woke people up. They showed others that “this matters.” That spark grew into momentum that led into an impact.
What do you think matters more: the number of people or their commitment to the cause?
So, yes, numbers amplify change, but commitment ignites it. A small team with vision, resilience, and courage is often more effective than a large assembly lacking direction.
Take this simple illustration, there are a lot of things we can learn from Ants. Before ants brings food to the colony, the worker ant goes out in search of food and when he finds it, it goes home and signals to them the location of the food. They follow the path set and many ants marches to get the food with just a few ants commanding.
in the same way, a few committed people are needed them from there it grows to what ever we need.
How do you think a group goes about making a difference in their society?
For a Group that is willing and committed to a cause make a difference in the society, they have to believe in what they set to achieve and have a shared goal, values and plan or a path (like the ants) to their achievements.
This is likely a plan they could follow, and if I am part of this Group, I will do these:
- Educate: They should be able to share stories
- Engage: Invite people to join them and be open to discussions
- Act: Plan workshops, community events or appeal
- Sustain: Check their progress, adapt and celebrate wins.
Being queer means I've experienced the power of committed few. Whether standing for access to safe spaces, mental health support, or queer visibility—all started with the bravery of a handful of people refusing to stay silent.
We can wait for millions, or we can be the change we’re waiting for. It only takes us—with conviction, commitment, willingness, consistency, and care.
