PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) Sumatra Regional took advantage of the moment of World Environment Day together with the Aceh Provincial Environmental Service to carry out a coastal cleanup action with the theme of beating plastic pollution on Ie Meulee Beach, Sabang City, Aceh, Indonesia.
The beach clean-up action in collaboration with the Aceh Province Environmental Service is a form of commitment to sustainable environmental management. These activities were carried out simultaneously in 133 locations in Indonesia by 31 companies under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia.
Senior Manager Health, Safety, Security, an Environmental (HSSE) PHR Regional Sumatra, Harnanto Djamal, said that his party was given the mandate to carry out beach clean-up activities in the company's work area.
"The 202 participants who attended the 2023 Coastal Cleanup managed to collect 233.7 kg of organic waste and 227.9 kg of inorganic waste. The total waste that was collected was 461.5 kg," said Harnanto.
The commemoration of World Environment Day 2023 is carried out in a hybrid and relay manner in all areas of Indonesia that have been selected as the location for the coastal cleanup. The Sumatra Regional PHR who carried out activities at Ie Meulee Sabang Beach, was greeted directly by the Head of the Mangrove & Peat Restoration Agency (BRGM) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ir. Hartono M.Sc., with the Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar online.
The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Sabang City, Andri Nourman, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to PHR Sumatra Regional for choosing Sabang City as the venue for the coastal cleanup event in commemoration of World Environment Day in 2023.
"Sabang is ready to become a model for beach cleanliness management, where synergy has been established between the Environment Service, the Sanitation Service, the community, and the environmental community in keeping the beach clean. Especially during the west monsoon when a lot of shipments of garbage are stranded on Sabang Beach," said Andri.
At the end of the event, Sumatra Regional PHR donated 20 units of trash bins and a set of cleaning tools to the Geuchik of Ie Meulee Village to be used in keeping the Ie Meulee Beach area clean in Sabang City.[]
