Never a dull moment for @whiterosecoffee in between roasting and packing amazing coffee we are brining in big shipments of raw green coffee in 60kg sacks to keep feeding the 5kg and 30kg roasters. Today we had two pallets of green coffee in, although it proved tricky because the delivery lorry did not have a tail lift - and at 580kg a piece my electric pallet stacker was tested to the extreme. But with some care, a few attempts and physical pushing we got them off and up the warehouse ramp without having to remove any sacks.
The electric pallet stacker is smaller and more convenient then a ride on fork lift - you walk behind it with an arm to control direction and rocker switches for speed. It only lifts a maximum of 600kg so todays delivery was right on the limit - and pull that up a steep slope is another challenge - the electric motor is great on the flat but no fan of up hill slopes.
Very securely wrapped as well, it's always nice to receive our coffee secure and protected from the elements, most of our speciality green coffee is in grain pro plastic sacks inside in the hessian sack - so protected from external influence but not all origins have this yet so it's really important for my coffee to arrive exceptionally well wrapped. I'll know in the cup if it's what I ordered and will be quick to complain if the quality I expect is not there.
The big news on this shipment though is @whiterosecoffee have their logo on the sacks, and a plantation will not just brand a single sack for you - it has to be a bulk order so this is a big day for us as coffee roasters that we can commit to buying going on for a tonne of coffee with our logo on knowing we will roast and ship it in a short period of time. And working with Algrano network it is transparently traded - the plantation receives what they need to keep growing excellent coffee, we know the broker fee and shipping cost - and most importantly - we paid in full for this coffee November 2020 before it even left the plantation. That's a huge commitment for any business paying for goods months before you will receive it to then sell on - but for us it helps ensure the coffee plantations we deal with can continue to grow amazing coffee despite facing their own challenges.
The last twelve months have been incredibly hard for any business with continued Covid restrictions, but despite the challenging times I hosted a #teamuk @hiveio meetup last September and @whiterosecoffee launched it's first #hiveblockchaincoffee which will be very soon followed by more origins and blends.
