A few weeks ago, my girlfriend, her family and I went on a trip to Tulum. Since I have been here in Mexico we have been wanting to visit Tulum, as we’ve seen and heard great things about it. We finally went and it was a great day out!
It didn’t start off the best, as when the bus got in to Tulum we weren’t sure what stop to get off, and ended up a bit further in the city from where we were going, but after asking someone, we were put on the right track.
We had a plan to first visit the ruins of the Mayan Temples, and then to the Casa Tortuga Cenotes. The Mayan Temples were very beautiful and incredible to see, but for me it wasn’t the funnest thing to do. I was just mostly excited to go to the cenotes, and it was definitely needed, as it was so hot!
After our walk around the Temple ruins, we then made our way to the bus to go to the cenotes. I was so hot, I just couldn’t wait to jump in the water and cool off! We got there, showed our tickets and headed off to the cenotes. The place wasn’t sign posted very well and when they checked our tickets, they didn’t make it clear to where we had to walk to, so we went the wrong way a few times, but we found it after what felt like a lot longer than it actually was just because we were so eager to cool off.
From what I understood, Casa Tortuga had several cenotes on the site, but 4 of them were open to the public.
When we got there, they had a few places to purchase food and drinks, hammocks and swings on trees, and a place to chill out with a foosball table. There was music playing and there was a great vibe to the place.
We had a tour guide to bring us to the cenotes, there were two cave cenotes and two open cenotes. They were all really amazing, the open cenotes were most fun for me as they had sections at the side that we could jump off into the water. Some of them were pretty high! The cave cenotes were also very fun to experience. In one of them the tour guide showed us how the water reflected the ceiling perfectly, which was breathtaking to see. Another had several bats on a section of the ceiling.
