There is no doubt that Sepúlveda, deservedly one of Spain's great bastions of heritage, holds, especially for lovers of Romanesque architecture, a true ancient gem. In addition to being the oldest in this town, it is characterized by its elegance and, of course, also by being the recipient of a sculpture whose archetypes not only created a school in the surrounding lands, but also a wealth of information about the life and thought of those medieval generations who were born, grew up, and died in the shadow of its compact walls, listening to the tolling of ancient bells. As the American poet John Donne famously said, "Never ask for whom they toll, for there is no doubt that they toll for you too": the Church of Saint Savior.
No cabe duda de que Sepúlveda, siendo por merecimiento propio uno de los grandes bastiones patrimoniales de España, tiene, sobre todo para los amantes de la arquitectura románica, una verdadera joya milenaria, que, además de ser la más antigua de este Villa de carácter, se caracteriza por su elegancia y también, desde luego, por ser receptora de una escultura, cuyos arquetipos, no sólo crearon escuela en las tierras de alrededor, sino también un pozo de información sobre la vida y el pensamiento de aquellas generaciones medievales que nacieron, se desarrollaron y murieron a la sombra de sus compactos muros escuchando el tañido de unas viejas campanas, a las que, como glosara el poeta norteamericano, John Donne, no hay que preguntar nunca por quién doblan, pues no te quepa duda alguna de que doblan también por ti: la iglesia de San Salvador.
