In this article I will share a list of 10 homemaker tips to make every day special.
The Magic Word
Before we get into the 10 tips, we need to check ourselves for gratitude. The only way we can turn our ordinary days into special ones is by being grateful for our lives as homemakers. We get to create a home, and set a mood for our families to feel safe and connected.
The magic word to pay attention to here is “get“.
For example: “I have to do the dishes again”, sounds negative. “I get to do the dishes now”, sounds positive.
I have to make dinner, versus, I get to make dinner.
I have to clean and organize that closet, versus, I get to clean and organize that closet.
It can feel strange to speak or think this way at first, but it’s a great way to inject some gratitude into your life.
Repetitive Responsibilities
It can be easy to become resentful, jealous, and just plain tired of the repetitiveness. Instead we must be grateful for every day, every responsibility, and every role each person in the family plays.
Our role as the homemaker is to manage the home. That means, we get to choose to make every day special, for us, and everyone who enters our homes. The repetitiveness of our responsibilities are just opportunities to bless our homes with function and beauty over…and over…and over.
My Pity Party
I recently celebrated a birthday. I was having an ordinary day, only worst, because I developed a cold for the first time in ages. My birthday started out as a total pity party. I was disappointed that it was just going to be another day of cooking, dishes, and laundry, with a baby and toddler under my wing. Once again, I was ruining my own day because I had unrealistic expectations.
I have a very romantic imagination. How sweet would it be to have my husband take the day off of work, thoroughly clean the house and do the day’s load of laundry? I could stay in bed while he takes care of the kids and make the meals… Maybe he would even be able to take the kids out somewhere so I could enjoy the quiet, clean house.
I was fantasizing about having a day off from my repetitive responsibilities as a homemaker, wife, and mother.
Around lunch time I realized I needed to turn my attitude around. So I put my earrings in, applied some mascara, and tidied up – paying special attention to my personal space – the bedroom. I knew I would feel better if I poured some love into my environment. I put clean sheets on the bed, put away the laundry that was piling up, made a bouquet of flowers for my nightstand, and lit the candles. I was grateful to be able to do this for myself.
I turned an ordinary day into a special day.
10 Homemaker Tips to Make Every Day Special
#1
Dress your best.
Wear something that makes you feel beautiful and confident. Your confidence will spill into your day and improve the mood of the home. Imagine you have special guests coming for dinner every day, and you want to look presentable. You and your family (and the farm animals) are the special guests.
#2
Wear shoes, not slippers.
(wear shoes)
(not slippers)
This point ties into point #1, but it was such a homemaker game changer for me, it deserves its own point. Swapping the chunky, unattractive slippers for comfortable, stylish indoor shoes, is a simple way achieve elegance. Chunky fluffy slippers all day every day, is not special.

#3
Make your favourite drink.
At least once during the day, make something a little more special than water.
Lemon and ice for your water.
Sparkling water.
A cup of tea or coffee.
A glass of wine with dinner.
Have it in your favourite glass.

#4
Tidy up.
I know, you’re always tidying up. Keep up the good work. An untidy home, isn’t special. We get to change that. Check those places where things pile up.
The corner of the counter where everything gets dropped.
The junk drawer.
The front door.
You know what I mean.
Clear up the clutter, and your home will feel well managed and inviting.
#5
Tend to the houseplants.
If you have real houseplants, make sure they are happy. Do they need water, a dusting, a root prune and repot? They are living things that share our homes. Their mood rubs off on the rest of us, just like people do.
#6
Rearrange something.
Make some changes to your home to keep the energy fresh.
I personally feel like dense energy gets trapped in stagnant places, like under the couch and in corners.
Rearranging furniture and swapping out decor is one of my favourite ways to keep me inspired.
#7
Play inspiring music.
Play music that will inspire you to be the person you want to be. Having music playing in the background, at calculated times is a great way to make each day feel special.
Really imagine what kind of home environment you are trying to create, and set the mood with music. At times, high energy dance music might be appropriate. At other times, relaxing classical music might be best.
#8
Fresh flowers.
People gift flowers to each other on special occasions to communicate emotions. Keeping a fresh arrangement in your home at all times is a guaranteed way to make each day feel romantic and special. It could be as simple as a little bouquet of wild camomile that you found in the ditch, or a basket of twigs and spruce tips in the winter.
#9
Use your favourite tableware and cutlery.
Even left over soup with our young kids can feel special when we use our favourites.
We need to eat, so why not inject a little extra joy into each meal by using our favourite dishes. Try to set the table as often as possible, so everyone feels welcomed to sit down and enjoy themselves. Setting the table is a great way to involve children at mealtimes. They will be proud to do it with the best dishes, too.
#10
Light a candle.
Especially in the mornings during winter, and at the end of the day, adding an element of fire will make every day feel special.
Our lives as homemakers are filled with opportunities to turn ordinary days in to special ones.
