I learned about this plant through the most diverse sources - from a Tasmanian friend who was taking it in pill form and had gone from endometriosis to pregnancy in less than 2 yrs, from a pelvic steaming network based in the Americas, to figuring it grew locally in this part of Italy, via ancient wisdom from the Trotula di Salerno... to finding a tree in my local garden centre!
Here are the berries from what's called Pepe dei Monaci here - Monk's Pepper.
The fascinating quality of this herb is that it appears to have effects on male and female sexual/ reproductive systems. It's traditionally been used to both heal and regulate menstrual rhythms, and to quell sexual drive in men.
As is my Natural Law approach, I've been communing with the plant herself, since placing her temporarily in a small street garden space (until I sell my magical arthouse and move to the country, so to have blessed land to work on!) - I've gifted my menstrual blood to her, and she's grown at a rapid rate, now reaching out into the street rather wildly.
When I first started inquiring into the plant and her medicine, I mistakingly asked the local nature pharmacist what she knew, and she listed the pill form ("all natural"!) - but she was terribly concerned that I wanted to grow the plant itself and even - horror of horrors! - use the natural, real version of the medicine!
At that time, I was vulnerable enough to be put off my studies, just by her elder authority, and her projection of fear. Since then, I've learned a lot about the mystical facts of our relationship with Nature and plant medicine - and actually have been waiting to be spoken to by the vitex agnus castus.
Today, I found clear connected sentient alignment, between the plant calling me to harvest her beautiful fragrant berries, my bleeding cycle returning to full fertility, my return to a relationship (after significant transformation on both sides) that had ended a couple of months ago... the plant seems to be calling me also to renew my commitment to selling the house in order to get to connect more deeply with land-seasons-cycles... it all alugns, and so the factor of dosage and how to apply the medicine... it comes effortlessly.
I know that my plants respond powerfully to their nourishment directly from my vital force in this way. Sacred white roses are blooming for the third or even the fourth time this year... my feminine wisdom us flowering too, as I'm able to speak to others who need natural medicine and tonics, and it naturally flows out towards them.
With so much 'wrong' in the world, it's easy to fixate on what needs to be fixed, but wild, whole, mystical Nature and Real Life teach us to trust in our inherent symbiosis, and in that-which-is-so-much-more-than-the-sum-of-the-parts... to spend less time grabbing, and more time listening -then the correct Way is clear.
