A long meander — moody forest-fog
____________________________________
The moody forest gleams with orange and black —
and soon, the silver frost will wend its way
through stalwart gnarls of grass and stranger stalks
that creep their pace mandritic through the years.
A mystic locale, pulsing with weird haze;
aetheric glowing dust that tendril-twists
according to its rainbow-archèd whims
that fluctuate to clocks of faerie stars.
These groves are given life when I am slain
by slumber — soft-reducèd to a babe:
though on a throne with twiggish wand I dream
I sit and make the world a better place
for fancies bright and dun to run amok.
A beauty lives here: older than the world,
translucent as the bridal veil that swirls
in breezes aromatic with the herbs
of passion, joy — and more exotic flave,
those feelings that can never hold a name.
Yes — I see the marshy lowland creek,
made cubic — [sloosh!] — the bend and straightaway
all fillèd with the shades of finer wights
I glimpsed in catalogue in soulful realm
before my Mind, resolvèd, chose the Earth.
So I am made creator of this bridge
whose planks of crackle-static groan and give
beneath the feet of whosoever joins
my journey through the dusky-hour'd skies.
And them I narrate to (should they be real,
or otherwise I rave to my sad Self)
to point the subtle sights that slink away
to edges of this doubtful solid scene.
See there — the ground grows purple with new sheen
of living hue that spreads, and sleeps, and breathes
to flutter out its life in lowly niche
made noble by the love hue holds for form.
And there — the water stills, a crispèd mirr'r —
reflecting perfectly my stilted fear,
my terror and false visage of delight
that swirls and shifts, disturbing in the night.
But, too — slim creatures climb and bask on limbs
of trees outstretchèd, joyful in the throes
of one long life eternal giv'n to run
and sleep upon the perch of noonday sun.
Though there, again — are beasts who stalk these prey,
those forkèd tracks, see? And those scarrèd trunks
where talons cruel rent the skin aside
to feast upon the lifeblood of that sap.
So all who join my grove of orange and black
see mixèd many truths and loves and lies —
that muddy-clear each other in the sighs
and smiles of those dreamers boldly shy
who creep within the moody forest's fog.
