Nature is our great help in times of sicknesses.
Last Saturday, my son is so active. He even participated in the giving of books to the people as we join Hope Impact by giving books for free.
As we are about to go home, my husband noticed that his body temperature seems high. He told me that our son might have fever. As I checked on him his temperature is high and indeed he has a fever.
We are a bit worried because dengue is common nowadays. In fact, a five year old boy was died of dengue just earlier this month and we are living in the same Purok.
So, my husband find a papaya tree and get one of its leaves. He slice it into a very small pieces, then put it in a clean cloth with some small holes in it, he press it until the juice came out.
He let our son drink it with honey. Fortunately we are so greatful because our son used to drink natural juices as his natural medicine.
Papaya leaves juice is known in its anti bacterial properties. It is also known to help patients with dengue.
Aside from papaya leaves juice, we are also fond of using oregano leaves juice to help us in fever, cold and cough.
Last night, I prepared oregano leaves juice for my son and let him take it along with honey before he went to sleep because his body temperature is still high. It is 37.8 if I remember it right. It is good compared to his body temperature last Saturday night.
I put it in the glass with water so it won't get dry and I can still use the remaining leaves for another take.
Early morning his body temperature is already okay as it falls down to 36.9. But I still wanted to let him drink oregano leaves juice as follow-up. So, I make oregano leaves juice again and I was able to take pictures of it.
I get atleast 7 to 10 leaves of oregano.
I then washed it and put it in the glass. I used wooden spatula to crush and grind it into small pieces. (I just use glass and wooden spatula as an alternative for mortar and pestle. It is safer to use mortar and pestle in grinding or crushing the leaves to get its use.)
After crushing or grinding it, this is how it looks like. I then press it using a spoon to get its juice. You can also use strainer.
This is the oregano leaves juice. It turns to color brown.
You can mix some honey along with it. But my son prefer to drink some honey first, drink the pure oregano leaves juice and then honey again. He took about two tablespoon if oregano juice this morning and one tablespoon honey.
I am happy with his development. As of 10:29 this morning his body temperature goes down to 35.5. I can see a smile in his face and he is not that weak.
Last night I planned to bring him in the health center today to let his blood checked but since I observed a good development in him I cancelled the plan.
During lunchtime, I decided to prepare a simple yet healthy soup for him and for me too. The soup only composed of spices like spring onions, bell pepper, onions and ginger which is known to have an anti bacterial properties. They are some of our natural antibiotics. It is also good to add some tomatoes in it but it is not available in our kitchen. I also add moringa (malunggay) leaves for additional health benefits (I forgot to took picture of it).
I let him sip the warm soup and put it in his rice. I'm so happy seeing him to eat a lot unlike yesterday that he really lost his appetite.
I really hope that he will be well very soon so he could go to school again. In our group chat, I also learned that not only my son is absent in school today due to fever, cold and cough but there are four or five others too.
Disclaimer: This is our own personal experience in using natural herbs as natural remedies and natural medicine for cold, cough and fever. We do believe that God provided nature as a natural medicine. We only need to know about it and believe in it with prayer and faith.
My son still have some cold and cough and his eyes still shows that he is not feeling well though he don't have fever now and he is now active and he eats well.
I am still observing him and IF his fever came back tonight, I will let his blood checked by tomorrow but I really hope that it won't.
