It's been ages since I made pea stew. I've been planning to, but... you know. This week I went to buy peas as had none in the freezer and today was a pea stew day. So I'm going to share the easiest pea stew recipe in the world and show you my funny pea stew.
Smile 😂 Here's my pea stew. Or voilà ! Yeah, I had some fun decorating it, even though it wasn't easy and did not get the desired result. That needs some practicing, but I don't think there will be a next time.
Ingredients:
- 800g peas,
- 1 big onion, finely chopped,
- 3 tbs olive oil,
- 3 garlic cloves,
- 1 tbs red paprika powder,
- 1 tbs condiment (like Knorr, Delikat, Vegeta)
- 2 tbs all purpose flour,
- 1 tbs spelt flour,
- 1/2 cup milk,
- eggs,
- sausage.
Method
This is one of the easiest recipes in the world, so no experience is needed here.
Heat the oil in the post, then add the chopped onion. Stir at medium heat, till the onion becomes tender.
I'm using frozen peas as it's winter and it's impossible to get fresh peas. If you have fresh pas, use those.
When the onion is yellow and tender, add the paprika powder, mix and quickly add some water, to avoid burning it. Then add the peas and the garlic as well.
Add water to cover, then add the condiment mix.
Cover with a lid and cook till the peas are tender. I can't give you a cooking time unfortunately, as it depends on the peas you're using. Mine were of top quality (pure luck), so my stew was ready in 20 minutes.
Add the flour to a mixing bowl, add some milk and mix to homogenize. Then add the mix to the peas, stir till the flour is cooked.
You can add some salt as well, depending on your condiment mix and peas. Some peas are more sweet than others, so it depends on the taste.
This is where the fun began. I usually serve the stew with sunny eggs, but this time I thought I would make it a bit funny and make the eggs look like eyes. Initially I wanted round eyes, but my round form is smaller and the egg would have not fir in it, so I had to use this one.
The first one came out pretty acceptable, but the second one stuck to the form and looked awful (the one on the left). I should have made another one and replace this, but I didn't.
To make it look like a face, I placed a piece of sausage on the plate, to look like a mouth. Then I used red paprika sauce to make the eyes and nose.
You can serve it with toast if you like, but it's ok as it is as well.
This is a common dish in my country and I think in Hungary too.
This was my culinary fun for Sunday.
So, any brave hivean here, who would taste this? 😂
