Hace muchos años tuve mi época de fondant, estaba bastante obsesionada con el uso de este material, años en los que era usual que hiciera al menos dos o tres pasteles con algo de fondant, ya fueran cubiertos con esta masa, con figuras hechas de fondant o ambas técnicas. Fue una época dónde esta masa estaba muy de moda, no es que actualmente no se use, pero la crema de mantequilla, el merengue o la cubertura de chocolate exigieron el espacio que considero que por antigüedad se han ganado y ahora es usual que muchos pasteles se alejen de la decoración con fondant.
Todo lo que aprendí en ese periodo, incluso hoy en día me es de utilidad cuando deseo trabajar con fondant, y en esta ocasión quise hacer un gatito (muy a mi estilo) para decorar un pastel de cumpleaños.
Cuando hago figuras en fondant me siento libre de empezar una y otra vez, voy moldeando hasta que obtengo lo que considero puede ser un reflejo de la figura deseada, por ejemplo, para este gatito pensé en hacerlo ladeado, sin embargo, después de varios intentos no pude lograrlo, así que pasé a una posición de gatito sentado.
Comencé con la base del cuerpo y coloqué dos marcas para posicionar las patas, luego hice la cabeza que posicioné encima del cuerpo para estimar si el tamaño me parece adecuado.
Many years ago I had my fondant era, I was quite obsessed with the use of this material, year in which it was usual that I made at least two or three cakes with some fondant, whether they were covered with this dough, with figures made of fondant or both techniques. It was a time when this dough was fashionable, not that it is not used nowadays, but nowadays buttercream, meringue or chocolate icing demanded the space that I consider that by seniority they have earned and now it is usual that many cakes move away from fondant decoration.
Everything I learned in that period, even today are useful to me when I want to work with fondant, and this time I wanted to make a kitty (very much in my style) to decorate a birthday cake.
When I make fondant figures ,I feel free to start over and over again,.I keep molding until I get what I consider c reflection of the desired figure,. Forexample, for this kitten ,I thought of making it sideways,. However after several attempts ,I could not achieve ithis so I went to a *sitting kittenposition.
I started with the base of the body and placed two marks to position the paws. Then, I made the head, which I placed on top of the body to estimate whether the size seemed ideal.
Una vez que consideré el tamaño de la cabeza como ideal, marqué con una herramienta de moldeado el lugar dónde colocaré los ojos de la figura, las marcas son muy útiles para lograr equilibrar al personaje.
Once I consider the ideal head size, I mark with a molding tool the place where I will place the eyes of the figure, the marks are very useful to balance the character.
Algo importante al realizar figuras de fondant es cuidar la estructura para que no se venga abajo, para esto hay que hacer uso de palillos de madera, yo uso palillos para hacer pinchos, los posiciono de modo que el palillo sea una especie de columna vertebral de la figura y luego coloco la cabeza.
Para hacer las patitas de este gato moldeo el fondant haciéndolo más delgado en su comienzo y más ancho en su terminación para dar la forma de su pata, con un palillo o herramienta de modelado de fondant hago lineas poco profundas para crear los dedos del gatito.
Para el relleno de los ojos pinté fondant blanco con colorante negro hasta obtener un bonito gris y los posicioné en los espacios que marco para los ojos, para que se ajusten bien hay que usar un poco de agua como pegamento. Para las orejas del gatito pinté fondant blanco con colorante naranja, hasta obtener naranja claro, hice dos figuras de forma piramidal y marqué con una herramienta de moldeado para hacerlas cóncavas.
Something important when making fondant figures is to take care of the structure, for this you have to make use of wooden sticks, I use sticks to make skewers, I position it so that the stick is a kind of backbone of the figure and then I place the head.
To make the paws of this cat I mold the fondant making it thinner at the beginning and wider at the end to give the shape of its paw, with a toothpick or fondant modeling tool I make shallow lines to create the kitty's toes.
For the filling of the eyes I painted white fondant with black coloring until I got a nice gray and placed them in the spaces of the eyes, to make them fit I used a little water as glue. For the kitty's ears I painted white fondant with orange, until I got light orange, I made two pyramid-shaped figures and marked them with a molding tool to make them concave.
También añadí una larga y hermosa cola, luego manchas naranja al cuerpo del gato. También pinté fondant blanco con colorante azul para hacerle un lindo collar y agregué una perla dulce en el centro. Otro detalle que adicioné fue una nariz naranja y, por supuesto, pupilas negras y el brillo de los ojos que tanta vida le imprime a estas figuras.
Al final no pude decorar el pastel con este bello gatito, porque lamentablemente al hacer el pastel omití una parte del azúcar y entonces no tuvo la consistencia que me gusta, de sabor estaba bien, pero no logré obtener un pastel esponjoso, así que tuve que pasar al plan B y comprar un pastel ¡Gajes del oficio!
De igual forma me gustó mucho poder practicar esta figura en fondant, recordé que lo que bien se aprende no se olvida y que siempre es algo genial volver a hacer algo que disfrutas.
