Now I'm not a fan of Instant cake mixes and the like, but really, they do have their rightful place in my pantry for those unexpected visitors as I find store bought cupcakes way too sweet!
I also say that when you reach the Silver stage in your life, you have the license to take a short cut now and then.
Not that I like making a habit of that when it comes to food, but it sure does save time!
Attention all Silver Bloggers
A tip for all our #silverbloggers is to use this phrase below when you've forgotten to do something, and that is...
Blame the Silver Hairs.
I promise you it works like a charm every time! Just don't do it too often or that excuse will soon fade and not be accepted as readily next time!
Back to cupcakes; choose the best brand as that will give you the best cupcakes of course.
Follow the package instructions, top with sprinkles in all the colours of the rainbow, some chocolate vermiccelli and you won't even need to put any supersweet icing on them as they already look pretty enough plus it's much better for the waistline! 20 minutes later your cupcakes are all ready to remove from the oven.
This will be the teatime treat.
On the other hand, if your guests are coming over for sundowners, Bacon & Cheese Twists
is just the perfect snack; also a bit of a cheat as I'll be using store bought Puff Pastry.
Bacon & Cheese Twists
- 1 roll Puff Pastry, defrosted
- Mustard or Sweet Chili Sauce
- 250 gram Bacon, diced
- 250 ml grated Cheddar Cheese
- 1 egg, beaten for glazing pastry twists
- Sesame Seeds
Roll out pastry thinly, cut into two rectangles, top one half with mustard or sweet chili sauce, diced Bacon & Cheese.
Place the second layer of pastry on top and press downl.
Cut into strips, paint with egg wash, dip in seeds, twist & bake at 190°C for approx 30 min or till brown and crispy.
That's all for now folks, hope to see you all soon.
PS @phoenixwren alerted me to the fact that Sundowners have a totally different meaning in the US, and I'll quote:
in the US it refers to elderly folks who have the type of dementia where they're okay during the day but flare up at night.
Now here in South Africa, sundowners mean having a drink and a pre-dinner snack at the end of the day, as the sun goes down...have to wait for that, no drink before that takes place, otherwise it can't be called a sundowner...🍸
LOL, I had to add this to put the record straight!
