Good evening everyone. I'm here again with another food recipe. I enjoy making this meal and I hope you get to try it too.
I am a Nigerian and most people in my country know the food bean cake and pap to be actually akara and akamu(or ogi in some cases).
This is one of my favourite dishes as it is easy to prepare. The only part I fear is the frying of the beancake because of the hot oil process involved.
My dad told me that I actually enjoyed eating this meal when I was little and at one point he would have to forcefully hold my hand to prevent me from choking since I was always rushing my meal. Growing up, not much difference occurred as I still love the food.
Basically, the bean cake as the name implies is made from beans, while the pap is made from corn. I'll write on the processing methods in one of my future posts. Now, I want to write about food preparation.
Ingredients Needed
You can either use a processed bean flour or actually grind your beans with a grinder.
In this case,I used the already processed bean flour.
Two cups of bean flour
Three seeds of peppers
One medium onion
Salt to taste
Vegetable oil for frying
Blended crayfish
Sometimes,I use larsor tomatoes seasoning to make it more colourful.
Procedures
Heat up some oil at least 3 inches deep.
Mix the flour with a little warm water in a bowl.
Add your blended onion, crayfish, salt and lassa spice
Always have a taste of the mixed ingredients to prevent excess or reduced use of ingredients
Scoop the mixed ingredients into the already hot oil .
Fry the bean cake until it gets to a certain reddish brown color.
Remove and place in a sieve
Ingredients for Pap
Blended corn
Hot water
Sugar
Milk
Procedures
Mix your pap in a bowl with limited water.
Add your hot water to a reasonable limit so as to avoid excessive lightness of the pap.
Add your sugar and milk.
Food is ready.
Most people eat their akara with bread, custard or oat. I'd rather eat with pap, but could make do with any of the other three if not available.
I hope you get to try it sometime on your own and enjoy this delicious meal. It's also very filling and gives a great satisfaction.
Please share your experience in the comment section if you've eaten or tried making this meal.
Thanks for reading.
