Greetings dear friends of Foodies Bee Hive, it is a pleasure for me to introduce myself in this, my first post within the community. I am Merlys Montero, a 20-year-old Venezuelan who, not long ago—let's say about a year ago—became interested in learning the art of baking from home. Today, I wanted to share with you a recipe that I learned from a great friend, which are delicious dry pasta-like cookies. However, on this occasion, I had to improvise and give an unexpected twist to their presentation. See for yourselves.

I started by adding 200 grams of salted margarine to a bowl and beating it a bit with a manual whisk until it lightened in color and became somewhat creamier. Then, I added 150 grams of refined sugar, one whole egg, and one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and integrated them into the butter by beating manually.
Once I had everything well mixed, I added 230 grams of self-rising flour and 45 grams of cornstarch; I used this amount of cornstarch because I didn’t have more at home, but I usually use 100 grams, meaning this could slightly alter the composition of the cookies, but not the flavor. I integrated these ingredients very well into the previous mixture until I had a thick batter with no lumps. I did this with the help of a rubber spatula and finished with the manual whisk to achieve greater creaminess.

Once I had the mixture, I let it rest for about 10 minutes and then transferred it to a pastry bag with a pointed nozzle to help me create the characteristic shape of the dry pasta cookies. I piped different shapes of cookies onto a mold that I had prepared with parchment paper and then let it harden for 1 hour in the refrigerator. After this time, I baked them for approximately 20 minutes at 230 degrees Celsius. In the oven, I noticed that my cookies melted, meaning they lost their shape. I assume this was due to the mistake with the amount of cornstarch they needed or because they didn’t freeze well enough (they should be firm from the cold before baking), but I didn’t get discouraged and tried to make them another way.

Recently, I bought an electric appliance to make baked mini donuts, which also included another mold that I didn’t know how to use, and there I got the idea to use the mixture I already had made to see how it turned out. So, I poured the mixture into each of the spaces in my little machine and left it until I saw they were a bit golden. I waited for them to cool a bit before removing them, and then I let them rest in front of the fan to cool completely. I can say they turned out very pretty, although the photo doesn’t do them much justice, and they were delicious. They didn’t come out as I expected, but without a doubt, they didn’t turn out badly.

Soy Merlys Montero, una venezolana de 20 años que, hace poco —digamos un año—, se interesó en aprender a hornear en casa. Hoy quería compartir con ustedes una receta que aprendí de una gran amiga: unas deliciosas galletas tipo pasta seca. Empecé añadiendo 200 gramos de margarina con sal a un bol y batiéndola un poco con unas varillas manuales hasta que se aclaró y se volvió un poco más cremosa. Luego, agregué 150 gramos de azúcar refinada, un huevo entero y una cucharadita de extracto de vainilla, y los integré con la mantequilla batiendo manualmente.
Una vez que tuve todo bien mezclado, agregué 230 gramos de harina leudante y 45 gramos de maicena. Usé esta cantidad de maicena porque no tenía más en casa, pero suelo usar 100 gramos, lo que significa que esto podría alterar ligeramente la composición de las galletas, pero no el sabor. Integré muy bien estos ingredientes a la mezcla anterior hasta obtener una masa espesa y sin grumos. Lo hice con ayuda de una espátula de goma y terminé con el batidor manual para lograr una mayor cremosidad.

Una vez que tuve la mezcla, la dejé reposar unos 10 minutos y luego la pasé a una manga pastelera con boquilla puntiaguda para ayudarme a crear la forma característica de las galletas de pasta seca. Hice diferentes formas de galletas en un molde que tenía preparado con papel vegetal y luego lo dejé endurecer durante 1 hora en el refrigerador. Después de este tiempo, las horneé durante aproximadamente 20 minutos a 230 grados centígrados. En el horno, noté que mis galletas se derretían, es decir, perdieron su forma. Supongo que esto fue debido al error con la cantidad de maicena que necesitaban o porque no se congelaron lo suficientemente bien (deben estar firmes por el frío antes de hornear), pero no me desanimé e intenté hacerlas de otra manera.

Hace poco compré un electrodoméstico para hacer mini donas horneadas, que también incluía otro molde que no sabía cómo usar, y de ahí surgió la idea de usar la mezcla que ya tenía preparada para ver qué tal me quedaba. Así que vertí la mezcla en cada uno de los huecos de mi pequeña máquina y la dejé hasta que vi que estaban un poco doradas. Esperé a que se enfriaran un poco antes de sacarlas, y luego las dejé reposar frente al ventilador para que se enfriaran por completo. Puedo decir que quedaron muy bonitas, aunque la foto no les hace justicia, y estaban deliciosas. No quedaron como esperaba, pero sin duda, no quedaron mal.
