Nowadays, we are much concerned about our health when the pandemic has arrived unexpectedly. This time, we are focused on how to take care of ourselves and our health. We even take food supplements and vitamins to boost our immune system. One factor that could make us healthy is through doing proper lifestyle; for example, eating organic and healthy foods. Sometimes, we often forget that the recipe that we consider not so common but so simple are those foods that give us many nutrients and vitamins that can make our life longer.
WHAT'S IN OUR BACKYARD?
In our case, since we have a vacant space at home, we utilize it by planting different kinds of plants like fruits and vegetables that can make us save a bit in our daily budget. We've planted lemongrass, coconut trees, banana orchard, pineapple, soursop, papaya, chili, moringa, and lemon.
It's been a while that I haven't cooked any food for snacks for my family that's organic and healthy. Usually, I prepare viand for my family. When I checked our backyard, I saw the possible recipe that I should cook for afternoon snacks. So, I was thinking about making a Banana Jam and Lemon Grass Juice.
INGREDIENTS
LEMON GRASS
It is said that this plant is good for those people who have high blood pressure.
🍋CALAMANSI OR SOUR CITRUS
Out of five sour citruses, only one survived. It's just like a dream. When you fail four times, who knows the fifth time you suddenly shine like a bright diamond.
🍌BANANA
Eating some bananas a day can make us healthy every day. There are a lot of nutrients that a banana can give to our body. And I'm thankful that we have a lot of these planted in our backyard. It's not so hassle to take care of the latter because they can survive without even watering them every day. You will only plant once. Eventually, it will spread and bear fruit as much as it can.
🥣SUGAR
It is an essential ingredient as well as it gives good taste to your recipe. In everything, it should be in moderation, not too much sugar to prevent diabetes and other illness.
🥛WATER
Two liters of water a day can prevent some diseases in our body like kidney failure.
LEMON GRASS JUICE PROCEDURE
- Prepare all the ingredients and wash them well thoroughly.
- Put water in the pan and the lemongrass. When it starts to boil, put sugar in it.
- Boil for 10 minutes.
- When it's finished, pour in a pitcher and put lemon in it. It's up to you if you want it to be chilled or not.
BANANA JAM PROCEDURE
- Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- Peel off and slice pieces of banana into small pieces.
- Put the sugar into the pan and warm water. Let it boil.
- When it's in the boiling point, put all the sliced banana and stir until it's a bit sticky.
- Transfer it to a glass container or any available container at home. It's good to have a banana jam sandwich.
Unlike other recipes, mine is just so simple that anybody can cook it in just a few minutes. If you have vacant space or even recycled containers at home, you can utilize that. Plant a variety of fruits and vegetables just like I did, except bananas and coconut. For sure you'll have fun during harvesting time; the fruit of your labor.
It's just easy to prepare all of these because it has fewer ingredients needed.
If we want to live long, we also have to provide an effort to prepare and eat food that can make our bodies happy. These days many people acquire illness at an early age because of lifestyle. We all want to live longer to enjoy the things we have in the world.
At home, I always make sure that I provide my child a healthy food to prevent illnesses because it's not easy to be ill, especially if you don't have sufficient monetary income or savings. That is why as a parent, I always try my best to practice cooking healthy food. Not only that, we have to exercise and sleep well.
