Hello everyone. I just wanna share a food that every Cebuano knows and love.
Ever since I was born in this world, every Holy Week A.K.A. "Semana Santa" in Cebu, we always have this delicacy called "Binignit". I'm not really sure about the details on why this dish/food should always be served during the Holy Week. I asked my mother about it and she just said "It's our tradition".
Anyways this food is quite similar to Halo-Halo and is a mix of a lot of different fruits and vegetables such as Bananas, Sweet Potato, Taro and Ube. You could any type of fruit or vegetable you want as long as it will taste good. But those are the main fruits and vegetables needed to make this very tasty dish.
But for me though. Binignit is not complete without powdered milk. My folks don't like that coz it will make the dish so much sweeter. So I just take my portion and put some powdered milk on it.
I am currently on a diet to loose some weight but I just can't help it. It feels like my Holy Week won't be complete without even tasting this mouth watering dish. So good bye diet for now. The milk itself already contains a lot of fat in it, but I can't eat "Binignit" without milk. I mean for those people who knows this dish and have tried putting powdered milk in it would know. It's like once tasted, you'll always want it :)
Anyways this is only once a year so I think it's acceptable right? I need to treat myself sometimes yeah? Dieting is important but when it comes to "Binignit" no diet today :D
