Today, despite being busy as usual, I managed to get some free time to go and visit my brother in law's orchard - which is located only 5 minutes drive from my restaurant!
He is a passionate and has been planting different fruit tress around his greenhouses...
I was so happy to see how all the different trees are in the process of giving us delicious fruits very soon. From my count, I got 9 different fruits...
1. Litchis...
These will be the first to be ready...only couple of days more and these litchis will be fully red/ripe! I tasted one...and it is already quite sweet...now imagine when they'll be fully ripe!
2. Mangoes...
Litchis and Mangoes are the 2 most common tropical fruits you will see all around Mauritius during the summer months...
And he has both trees in his orchard!
I just love mangoes so much and the variety he has over there is one of the sweetest I've ever tasted in my entire life!
Mangoes can be enjoyed when green too...you can make a spicy salad or make pickles with them...
Such a versatile and delicious fruit!
3. Avocadoes...
Oh yes...there's a is avocado tree too!
Actually this will be the first time that we gonna get avocadoes from this tree...and the avocadoes look nice already!
4. Bananas...
We have over 100 bananas trees in his orchard and whole year long we get to enjoy these beauties!
5. Dragon Fruits
Also known as pitaya, I still remember when he first planted this dragon fruit plant, it was so small!
And now...4 yrs later...just look at that monster!
It is already flowering and small fruits already appearing. Hmmm maybe by end of December/January they will be ready.
This is a closer look at a green dragon fruit...
They will turn purple when ready to be consumed!
6. Pomegranate...
The pomegranate we have in the orchard is really a unique variety...
Their seeds is a little bit harder than the ones we usually see on the market stalls...but the taste is 100 times better!
In a week or two time, they will be ready for pick up!
7. Pomelos...
I use pomelos a lot in my menus and most of the ones we will be getting from my brother in law's orchard will end up in my kitchen...
8. Cherimoya / Custard Apple
This is another fruit which comes in the summer months only...in all we have more than 5 trees around and we gonna have a real lot of cherimoya soon and the season will be minimum 2 months long!
9. Guavas...
Oh yeah...we got guavas too! These are the white variety and are super sweet!
They are still young and green and need some more weeks before getting ready for eating!
That's a lot of different fruits...
Summer will be amazing with so many different fruits to keep us refreshed!
I can't wait to start enjoying these beauties/gift of nature.
Our only fear is that...we hope that insects / Bats / weather conditions / do not affect our fruits and the trees!
If all good conditions are united...for sure we gonna have a great summer ahead with these beauties!
Ps. All these photos are my property and taken earlier today at my brother in law's orchard!
Thanks so much for reading and supporting my blog!
Have a great day/evening ahead!
