Imagine it's a cosy day and you fancy something really tasty and fun in the kitchen. How about a spaghetti squash baked in the oven with an irresistible sauce made from papaya, tomatoes, peppers and minced beef? Sounds crazy? Well then, here we go!

stellt euch vor, es ist ein gemütlicher Tag, und ihr habt Lust auf etwas richtig Leckeres und gleichzeitig Lustiges in der Küche. Wie wäre es mit einem Spaghetti-Kürbis im Backofen und einer unwiderstehlichen Soße aus Papaya, Tomaten, Paprika und Rinderhackfleisch? Klingt verrückt? Na dann, los geht's!
I cooked pumpkin for the first time ever this year and now I've cooked another one. I haven't had this much spontaneity in the kitchen in recent years. LOL! Then there's the idea of papaya. Some time ago I saw a lady here on Hive making a papaya soup. I heard a lot about the fruit because it is also supposed to have super properties to cleanse the body. And now, for the first time, I found one of these fruits that is not native to Germany and I hope that whoever picked it in their country was properly paid for it. So many crazy things in German cuisine at once! Well then, on with the recipe.
Ich habe in diesem Jahr das erste Mal überhaupt Kürbis zubereitet und nun gleich noch einen anderen. So viel Spontanität hatte ich in den letzten Jahren nicht in der Küche. LOL! Dazu kommt die Idee mit der Papaya. Vor einiger Zeit sah ich eine Lady hier auf Hive, die eine Papayasuppe machte. Ich hörte viel von der Frucht, denn sie soll auch super Eigenschaften haben, um den Körper zu reinigen. Und jetzt fand ich zum ersten Mal eines dieser nicht in Deutschland beheimateten Früchte und hoffe, dass egal wer sie gepflückt hat in seinem Land, auch anständig dafür entlohnt wurde. So viele verrückte Dinge in der deutschen Küche auf einmal! Na dann, weiter in der Rezeptur.
Firstly, grab a spaghetti squash. This yellow chap looks like a UFO, but don't worry, he won't abduct you. Cut it in half (carefully, it might fight back!) and remove the seeds. Then place the halves cut-side down on a baking tray and put them in the oven at 200 degrees for about 40 minutes. While the pumpkin is transforming into spaghetti squash in the oven, you can get to work on the sauce.
Zuerst schnappt ihr euch einen Spaghetti-Kürbis. Dieser gelbe Kerl sieht aus wie ein UFO, aber keine Sorge, er wird euch nicht entführen. Schneidet ihn in der Mitte durch (vorsichtig, er könnte sich wehren!) und entfernt die Kerne. Dann legt ihr die Hälften mit der Schnittfläche nach unten auf ein Backblech und ab damit in den Ofen bei 200 Grad für etwa 40 Minuten. Während der Kürbis im Ofen seine Verwandlung zum Spaghetti-Kürbis durchmacht, könnt ihr euch der Soße widmen.
For the sauce you need:
- 1 ripe papaya (yes, you read that right, papaya!)
- 2 large tomatoes and tomato sauce
- 1 spring onion
- 2 red pointed or normal peppers
- Approx. 300-400 g minced beef
- 1 onion
- Salt, pepper and your favourite spices
Für die Soße braucht ihr:
• 1 reife Papaya (ja, richtig gelesen, Papaya!)
• 2 große Tomaten und Tomatensoße
• 1 Lauchzwiebel
• 2 rote Spitz oder normale Paprika
• Ca.300-400 g Rinderhackfleisch
• 1 Zwiebel
• Salz, Pfeffer und eure Lieblingsgewürze
First finely chop the onion and leek and fry in a pan with a little oil until golden brown. Then add the minced beef and fry until crumbly. While the meat is frying, peel and deseed the papaya and cut into small cubes. Cut the tomatoes and peppers into small pieces and add everything to the pan. Season to taste with salt, pepper and your favourite spices and simmer the sauce over a medium heat until everything is nice and creamy.
Zuerst die Zwiebel und den Lauch fein hacken und in einer Pfanne mit etwas Öl anbraten, bis sie goldbraun sind. Dann das Rinderhackfleisch dazugeben und schön krümelig braten. Während das Fleisch brutzelt, könnt ihr die Papaya schälen, entkernen und in kleine Würfel schneiden. Die Tomaten und die Paprika ebenfalls klein schneiden und alles zusammen in die Pfanne geben. Mit Salz, Pfeffer und euren Lieblingsgewürzen abschmecken und die Soße bei mittlerer Hitze köcheln lassen, bis alles schön sämig ist.
Now comes the magic moment: the pumpkin is ready! Take it out of the oven and leave it to cool briefly so you don't burn your fingers. Then take a fork and scrape out the flesh - and lo and behold, it turns into spaghetti-like strings! Simply brilliant, isn't it?
Jetzt kommt der magische Moment: Der Kürbis ist fertig! Holt ihn aus dem Ofen und lasst ihn kurz abkühlen, damit ihr euch nicht die Finger verbrennt. Dann nehmt ihr eine Gabel und schabt das Fruchtfleisch heraus – und siehe da, es verwandelt sich in spaghettiartige Fäden! Einfach genial, oder?
Top with the delicious papaya, tomato, pepper and minced beef sauce and garnish with Parmesan cheese. Put it back in the oven for another 5 minutes and then serve it fresh. Top with a few fresh herbs and your culinary masterpiece is ready!
So I'm already a fan! Because it was really tasty and all low carb. The pumpkin has a very good consistency and I just hope you like my experiment and say:- see you next time.

Gebt die köstliche Papaya-Tomaten-Paprika-Rinderhackfleisch-Soße darüber und garniert das Ganze mit Parmesankäse. Schiebt ihn noch einmal für 5 Minuten in den Ofen und serviert ihn anschließend frisch daraus. Ein paar frische Kräuter obendrauf und fertig ist euer kulinarisches Meisterwerk!
Ich bin also schon ein Fan! Denn es war wirklich lecker und alles Low Carb. Der Kürbis hat eine sehr gute Konsistenz und ich hoffe einfach, dass euch mein Experiment gefällt und sage:- bis zum nächsten Mal.
