Dear colleagues, dear members of Union Syndicale Luxembourg,
It is with enthusiasm and humility that I present my candidacy for the next Executive Committee of our union. During the past term, as Secretary General, I have had the honour of working alongside you to uphold the values of Union Syndicale Luxembourg: listening, action, and results for all European civil servants in Luxembourg.
I am proud of what we have achieved over the last three years. Despite the growing disengagement from collective action, which weighs on the broader trade union movement, we have remained steadfast, supporting, among others, educators at the CPE Kirchberg and Mamer and the Garderie initially, as well as agents and officials at the Translation Centre thereafter.
Regarding our greatest battle, the correction coefficient, my term has been marked by a major strategic shift. After years of political efforts that did not yield the hoped-for outcomes, I spearheaded a new approach: backed by an in-depth legal study, we decided to return to the EU Court. Nearly a decade after the Tataram case, the discrimination faced by EU agents posted in Luxembourg will once again be debated, this time under a promising new light.
This action is part of a broader approach: following the departure of a prominent Executive Committee member in late 2022, I took charge of USL’s legal assistance, and our activity in this area has intensified. With three additional legal actions launched to defend your rights, we have made significant progress compared to the previous term. I want a Union Syndicale that protects its members. As our financial results show, we have also built a track record of winning our legal cases, which strengthens our healthy financial position.
For the future, I commit to:
- Pursuing our fight for the correction coefficient with pragmatism and determination.
- Strengthening legal support to defend, reassure, and protect your interests.
- Fostering a USL that is close to you, where every voice matters.
I believe in a united and engaged Union Syndicale Luxembourg, driven by our shared desire to move forward together. Your support in the elections will be invaluable to sustaining this momentum. Thank you for your trust!
In solidarity,
Sorin Cristescu
