Als direkte und indirekte Vorgänger des Ferrari Enzo Ferrari gelten die Modelle 250 GTO, 288 GTO, F40 und F50. Nachfolger ist der 2013 vorgestellte Ferrari LaFerrari.

The Enzo was originally announced as a limited production of 349 pieces. Ferrari sent invitations to existing customers, and all 349 cars were sold before production started. Later, after numerous inquiries, Ferrari decided to build 50 more Enzos, bringing total production worldwide to 399 units. The base price was about 662,000 Euros, the sales price with accessories settled at about 700,000 Euros. The purchase was only possible for selected persons who had a longstanding relationship with Ferrari.

Im März 2005 gab Ferrari bekannt, dass ein weiterer Enzo gebaut werden würde, was somit insgesamt 400 Stück ergab. Der Wagen wurde feierlich Papst Johannes Paul II. am 17. Januar 2005 übergeben, wonach der Papst darum bat, das Auto als Spende für die Caritas zu versteigern. Das Auto wurde von Sotheby’s am 28. Juni 2005 versteigert und der Erlös kam den Überlebenden des Tsunamis 2004 zugute. Das Auto mit der Fahrgestellnummer 141920 wurde für 1.055.000 Euro verkauft.

The car was solemnly presented to Pope John Paul II on January 17, 2005, after which the Pope asked that the car be auctioned off as a donation to Caritas. The car was auctioned by Sotheby's on June 28, 2005 and the proceeds were donated to the survivors of the 2004 tsunami. The car with the chassis number 141920 was sold for 1.055.000 Euro.
