Der Grund ist etwas kompliziert, aber führt dazu, dass Österreich sagen kann, Russland habe die Lieferungen eingestellt.
Österreich hat Gazprom vor einem Schiedsgericht wegen unzuverlässigen Gaslieferungen nach dem Ausbruch des Ukraine-Kriegs geklagt. Das Gericht verhängte Gazprom eine 230 Millionen Euro Strafe, die Gazprom nicht zahlen wollte, darauf hat die OMV angekündigt, nicht mehr für russisches Gas zu zahlen, was nun eben zu dem Lieferstopp führte.
Ab heute liefert Russland kein Gas mehr für Österreich, aber der Transit in andere Länder über Österreich ist derzeit noch möglich.
Die Ukraine hat aber ihrerseits angekündigt, ab Januar 2025 den Gastransit komplett einzustellen.
Was bedeutet das für Österreich? Österreich schlittert damit in eine ähnlich prekäre Situation wie Deutschland.
Wir müssen in Zukunft teures LNG (Flüssiggas) von Norwegen oder den USA importieren und werden in Zukunft deutlich mehr für Gas (und Strom) zahlen als vor dem Ukraine-Krieg. Der Strompreis orientiert sich in der EU am teuren Gaspreis. Merit-Order-Prinzip. Wir zahlen immer den teuersten Preis.
Speicher für diesen Winter sind zum Glück bereits gefüllt.

Russia reliably supplies natural gas to Austria via pipelines for almost 70 years now. Until today.
Today, the situation has escalated and Russia is still supplying gas, but no longer to Austria.
The reason is somewhat complicated, but it means that Austria can say that Russia has stopped deliveries.
Austria took Gazprom to a court of arbitration for unreliable gas supplies after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. The court then imposed a fine of 230 million euros on Gazprom, which Gazprom refused to pay. OMV then announced that it would no longer pay for Russian gas, which led to the delivery stop.
As of today, Russia is no longer supplying gas to Austria, but transit to other countries via Austria is still possible.
Ukraine, for its part, has announced that it will stop gas transit completely from January 2025.
What does this mean for Austria? Austria is slipping into a similarly precarious situation as Germany.
In future, we will have to import expensive LNG (liquefied natural gas) from Norway or the USA and will pay significantly more for gas (and electricity) than before the war in Ukraine. The price of electricity in the EU is based on the more expensive price of gas. Merit order principle. We always pay the most expensive price.
Fortunately, Austrian gas storage for this winter is already full.
