Während den turbulenten Ereignissen rund um den Bybit-Hack kursierte auf Social Media (X) das Gerücht, dass Vitalik ankündigt hätte, dass die Ethereum Foundation eine Abstimmung abhalten würde, einen Rollback auf der Ethereum-Blockchain durchzuführen, um die von Bybit gestohlenen Funds wieder zurückzuführen.
Das Problem ist allerdings, Vitalik hat diese Abstimmung nie offiziell angekündigt. Es gibt keinen Tweet dazu und auch die Accounts, die das Gerücht verbreitet haben, haben keine Quellen oder Tweets geteilt, sondern nur das Gerücht verbreitet. Das sieht eher nach klassischen Fake News aus, da die Quellen nicht angegeben wurden.
So ein Rollback wäre auch technisch schwer umsetzbar, da die Assets in der Zwischenzeit auf hunderten vielleicht tausenden Accounts weitertransferiert wurden, zahlreiche DEXes und User betroffen wären, ohne es zu wissen etc.
Ein Rollback würde auch dem Anspruch der Unveränderbarkeit von Blockchains unterminieren und würde Ethereum sehr schlecht aussehen lassen, wenn das die Foundation oder die ETH-Stakeholder beschließen oder nur andenken würden.
Andererseits gab es so einen Fall in der Anfangszeit von Ethereum tatsächlich im Zusammenhang mit dem DAO-Hack von 2016. Ein Hard-Fork machte den Hack wieder rückgängig, eine Entscheidung, die bis heute umstritten ist. Daraus resultierte der Fork in Ethereum und Ethereum Classic.
Mittlerweile ist Ethereum auf Proof of Stake umgestellt worden und die großen Exchanges sind gleichzeitig große ETH-Stakeholder.
Dass es zumindest die Idee und vielleicht sogar Druck von Seiten der Stakeholder (Exchanges) gab, die gestohlenen Assets mit einem Hard-Fork wieder zurückzubringen, halte ich daher für nicht ganz unrealistisch.
Die Idee kursierte auf Social Media tatsächlich und auch Tim Beiko, ein Ethereum Core Dev, hat sich zur Causa zur Wort gemeldet.
Was sagt ihr dazu? Denkt ihr, dass die Ethereum Foundation tatsächlich einen Rollback angedacht haben oder war das Fake News?

Ethereum rollback deemed ‘technically intractable’ amid Bybit hack pressure

During the tumultuous events surrounding the Bybit hack, a rumor circulated on social media (X) that Vitalik had announced that the Ethereum Foundation would hold a vote to roll back the funds stolen by Bybit on the Ethereum blockchain.
The problem is, Vitalik never officially announced this vote. There is no tweet about it and the accounts that spread the rumor did not share any sources or tweets, but only spread the rumor. This looks more like classic fake news, as the sources were not specified.
Such a rollback would also be technically difficult to implement, as the assets would have been transferred to hundreds or perhaps thousands of accounts in the meantime, numerous DEXes and users would have been affected without knowing it, and so on.
A rollback would also undermine the virtue of immutability of blockchains and would make Ethereum look very bad if the Foundation or ETH stakeholders were to decide or even consider a rollback.
On the other hand, there was indeed such a case in the early days of Ethereum in connection with the DAO hack of 2016. A hard fork reversed the hack, a decision that is still controversial today. This resulted in the fork into Ethereum and Ethereum Classic.
Ethereum has since been converted to Proof of Stake and the major exchanges are now the major ETH stakeholders of Ethereum.
I therefore believe it is not entirely unrealistic that there was at least the idea and perhaps even pressure from the stakeholders (exchanges) to bring back the stolen assets with a hard fork.
The idea has indeed been circulating on social media and Tim Beiko, an Ethereum core dev, has also spoken out about the cause.
