The blockhain Hive has the particularity of allowing its users to form a community and interact in a variety of different ways. In itself, this notion brings a probably unique dimension that makes all the difference compared to other networks. Here, it is not a question of carrying out silly financial transactions in order to make this blockchain active and useful, but rather of making its contribution by delivering content and actively participating in its development, all the while acting at its core. Having recently attained dolphin status, I am increasingly aware of the importance of our ability to influence Hive's future and of our decisive role in the balance of governance. We dolphins, now have a status that serves as a central pillar of the community.
A brief presentation
But before I develop the substance of my thoughts, I must introduce myself. I joined Steem during the month of November 2016, with the firm intention to take part in this fabulous innovative adventure and to be remunerated for my articles. Coming from the amateur blogging world specialized in video games, I thought above all to exercise my talents as a player but also as a writer, while having as an objective to perfect my writing but also to share my knowledge and my passion. Being myself French, I first had to face the language barrier. The beginnings were laborious and difficult.
In an effort to attract new French-speaking members and to develop this practically non-existent community, I decided to create @francosteemvotes by drawing inspiration from the work of the curative teams already in place. Our objectives were to encourage the members and to provide them with a structure that would encourage their development on the network. For almost three years and with the help of members we fulfilled this role and other organisations were created. When Justin Sun took over Steem, we got closer to our Quebecois counterparts @steemquebec, in the hope of involving all Francophones in the fight against the appearance of false witnesses.
Over time and with the complicity of these two groups, we finally came together to form a single entity when Hive was created. Thus gathered under the banner of @laruche, we continue more than ever this development work carried out with the community. Recently, we have implemented the @authentika tool, with the help of our dev @bambukah, and hope to create other practical tools in the future.
But let's get back to the point
Still, I didn't create this post to promote @laruche or myself. Because it is here to become aware of the importance that dolphins have in the chessboard of this blockchain. If we get used to the excellent analytical work produced by @arcange, in his article: Is Hive dencetralized and who governs it?, we learn that all the cards have been redistributed with a better repartition of the influence of each class, compared to what we had known about Steem.
Today, the group of whales has 31 accounts but now only hold 35.74% of the Hive Power.
The 2,196 accounts that make up the orcas and dolphins groups weigh more than the whales with their cumulated 48.89% of Hive Power. These whales no more control the blockchain and the middle class can now confidently influence its own future!
Of course, we could also deduce the opposite, if we combine the influence of the orcas with the whales. Nevertheless, we are seeing the emergence of a new form of governance in decision-making that is no longer in the hands of a small group of users. Even better, dolphins now own almost 20% of the tokens held, and this situation is likely to change if we take the trouble to change things in this direction. If we draw an analogy with our modern society, we can consider ourselves part of the middle class, and this time our voice counts ! It is therefore up to us to continue to maintain this trend by acting as a central element. For yes, we are at the centre of everything and you only have to look at the graph to see our role.
A large majority of us used to be minnows who have progressed over time, putting in a lot of effort and involvement in the community. We must therefore also act as a social lift to the most talented and deserving minnows. It's a bit of a pyramidal system but it's built on the image of what we have now. Just as members of higher social classes have helped us, we must also apply a policy of reaching out. In this way, we will allow this fair distribution of influence to continue throughout the network. In short, we are the relay between these two categories. Don't think of this as a self-plebiscite, but we can be proud of our decisive status.
How do we make that happen ?
Above all, it is essential that dolphins and orcas become aware of all this and then commit themselves to take the right decisions to build a fair and attractive network. For this, it is equally important to show unity and to come together under a representative entity. Therefore, I think that it is a good idea to join the @dolphin-assemble community and to include as many dolphin members as possible in order to build an account from scratch that will enable us to fulfil this bridging role. On this subject, I have some ideas to submit :
Delegate some of your HP to @dolphin-assemble (a minimum of 100HP?). In this way we will create from scratch an influential account representing the interests of the dolphins and allow a better visibility of this fringe of the population. This account will also have the objective to reward the people involved in this group and to highlight the aspiring dolphin minnows.
A Discord channel allowing to meet and debate together for decision making.
Above all to make the group live with the contributions of its members.
Finally, we must first and foremost establish dialogue and work as hard as possible to make Hive a blockchain that will succeed in uniting as many members as possible. We can do great things together!
I would like to apologize for any mistakes I may have made while writing this article. English is not my native language, but I try to do my best according to my knowledge. Feel free to correct me in case and then it will allow me to better interact with the international members !
Hive On !
