So I went to the theater yesterday to watch my weekend movie. My options were Freakier Friday and Weapons. Boy, did I make the right decision!
If you like mystery, horror, or thrillers, you HAVE to go watch Weapons! It's an absolutely crazy, amazing movie. Get through the rest of this post, upvote the post, scrap any plans you had today, then go buy a ticket to watch Weapons!
The trailer for Weapons gives you the perfect backstory for the film. The first 5 minutes of the movie are pretty much what you see in the trailer, then it gets crazy from there. The movie plays like an investigation into a mystery with elements of horror throughout the film. The movie shows how everyone in the town was affected by the events that took place then, and takes you on different characters' journeys while giving you clues about what's going on in the town.
The horror elements in the movie blend perfectly with the mystery to make for a great story. There's not a boring moment in the movie; you won't be able to take your eyes off the screen. The movie is under the horror genre, but isn't too scary, although there is one creepy bitch in the movie. Weapons has a few jump scares and some scary supernatural story components, but overall, the movie is a "who-done-it" style investigation into a mysterious event.
They picked the perfect cast for the movie. All of the characters felt very real and believable, creepy bitch included. The town's reaction to the events taking place in the trailer felt authentic. The teachers' emotions and reactions felt real, and reactions I'd expect from a former coworker of mine as a teacher. The villain in the movie was the embodiment of pure evil. And all of the supporting characters' actions felt believable.
By the time you reach the final act, without being too predictable, you see what's going on in the town. Then the movie gets crazy. I got pretty emotionally invested, finding myself rooting for the good guys without seeing how they would overcome. You get some good action in the last act and a super satisfying ending. They couldn't have made the ending of Weapons any better!
But overall, Weapons is an amazing movie. Easily the best movie in theaters right now, and it's not even close. The story is engaging and entertaining. Every cast member was perfect in their role. And they nailed the ending! The movie was so good I wished it were a little longer. But with all that being said, I rate the movie Weapons
