Another show I took advantage of watching this weekend before going back to classes and the daily grind was the second season of Special Ops: Lioness. I found its first season to be a real success. Although it doesn't offer much that's groundbreaking, the CIA espionage storyline, focusing on the actions of a program that trains female agents to infiltrate enemy lines and eliminate targets covertly, struck me as very interesting.

Otra serie que aproveche para ver este fin de semana antes del retorno a clases y toda la locura de la rutina diaria, fue la segunda temporada de Special Ops: Lioness. Su primera temporada para mí fue todo un éxito, aunque es poco lo nuevo que ofrece, la historia relacionada a espionaje de la CIA, pero me pareció muy interesante que cuenta sobre las acciones de un programa que prepara a un agente mujer para infiltrarse en líneas enemigas y eliminar un objetivo en clandestinidad.
Based on this premise, I thought this series would have a James Bond-esque style, with the same agent facing different threats, or perhaps something more like Jack Ryan, the CIA analyst who neutralizes undetectable threats. But it turned out that Lioness is a program that can recruit multiple agents, erase their entire past and any trace of their lives, and send them on new missions to neutralize threats against the United States.
Bajo esta premisa pensé que esta serie tendría un estilo de James Bond, con una misma agente enfrentando distintas amenazas, o quizás algo más como Jack Ryan el analista de la CIA que neutraliza amenazas indetectables. Pero resultó que Lioness es un programa que puede reclutar más agentes, borra todo su pasado y cualquier indicio de su vida y la embarca en una nueva misión para neutralizar amenaza contra los Estados Unidos.
This new season deals with facing a new threat that China is apparently exerting on the USA, using a Mexican drug cartel and their knowledge of the border to cause some kind of destabilization in the country. It addresses modern problems such as the migrant crisis that this country is experiencing, and how it is manipulated by human trafficking mafias. The whole story suggests that the Chinese government is responsible for creating small pockets of chaos to gauge the American government's response time, but they soon discover that this is not the case.
Esta nueva temporada trata de enfrentar una nueva amenaza que aparentemente China ejerce sobre USA, utilizando un cartel de la droga mexicano y su conocimiento de la frontera, para causar algún tipo de desestabilización en el país. Aborda problemas modernos como la crisis migratoria que vive este pais, y como es manipulada por las mafias que trafican con personas. Toda la historia apunta a que el gobierno chino es el responsable de crear pequeños focos de caos para conocer el tiempo de respuesta del gobierno americano, pero pronto descubre que no es así.
More than half of this season is wasted on discovering what is happening and then orchestrating a plan to counter the threat. Then comes the process of recruiting and convincing the new Lioness to take action, but everything happens very slowly, and the real action is left for the final episodes, with only small skirmishes in the first few chapters.
Más de la mitad de esta temporada se pierde en descubrir que es lo que está pasando y luego orquestar un plan para poder contrarrestar la amenaza. Luego el proceso de reclutar y convencer a la nueva Lioness para entrar en acción, pero todo ocurre de forma muy lenta y la verdadera acción la dejan para los episodios finales, con pequeños enfrentamientos en los primeros capítulos.
I think this season was a victim of Taylor Sheridan's overwork. As I mentioned in my previous post about Yellowstone, the sheer number of productions that this director and writer is in charge of gives the feeling that the quality of his work has declined. The dialogue doesn't have the same force as in his earlier works, as can be seen in the first seasons of Yellowstone. However, he still seeks to address complex issues such as international conflict between superpowers.
Creo que esta temporada fue víctima del exceso de trabajo de Taylor Sherindan, como comentaba en mi publicación anterior sobre Yellowstone, la cantidad de producciones que están a cargo de este director y escritor, da la sensación que ha provocado que la calidad de su trabajo decaiga, los diálogos no tiene la misma fuerza que en sus primeros trabajos, como se puede apreciar en las primeras temporadas de Yellowstone, sin embargo, busca abordar temas complejos como el conflicto internacional de las superpotencias.
This is somewhat offset by the great performances in the series. The mere fact of having Zoe Saldana, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman is saying a lot. In the hands of these veteran artists, anything turns out well. The emerging stars also do a great job. Génesis Rodríguez went from being a soap opera actress to successful series like The Umbrella Academy, which opened doors for her to projects like this.
Esto se ve solapado por las grandes actuaciones que tiene la serie, el solo hecho de contar con Zoe Saldana, Nicole Kidman y Morgan Freeman ya es mucho decir, que en las manos de estos artistas veteranos cualquier cosa sale bien. Las estrellas emergentes lo hace muy bien también, Génesis Rodríguez paso de ser actriz de telenovelas a series exitosas como The Umbrella Academy que le abrió las puertas a proyectos como este.
In conclusion, I can say that it is an entertaining series for those of us who are fans of espionage thrillers. It's rare that a series of this type doesn't entertain me. Of course, I can perceive things that I would like to be different, but what is presented works very well and you end up enjoying it quite a bit. It was part of my weekend relaxation plan, so I recommend it for a binge-watch to see both seasons.
En conclusión puedo decir que es una serie divertida para quienes somo fanaticos de los thriller de espionaje, rara vez una serie de este tipo no me entretiene, claro que puede percibir cosas que me gustaría que fueran de otra manera, pero lo planteado funciona muy bien y terminas disfrutándola bastante, fue parte de mi plan de fin de semana de relajación, así que la recomiendo para darse un maratón y ver ambas temporadas.
