Estoy totalmente adentrado al universo de Dune, la vi las dos películas recientes, la serie de la cual hablaré en este posts, estoy escuchando los audio-libros y empecé a ver la mini-serie de 3 episodios que es bastante antigua y de paso, bastante mediocre, esa mini-serie es bastante curiosa ya que adapta prácticamente en dos episodios toda la primera película de Dune del 2021 y Dune: Parte Dos, pero me ha costado terminar de verla, aún estoy por la mitad del episodio dos, debido a lo mala que es. Pero no estoy acá para hablar de esa mini-serie, sino de la serie que salió el año pasado: Dune: Prophecy, la cual me sorprendió ver que había salido en el 2024 ya que no pensaba que había salido este 2025, pero en fin. En definitiva Dune: Prophecy me gustó bastante, con ciertos matices que no afectan a la historia, pero en términos generales es una serie entretenida debido a que expande a un más el universo y la historia tan basta de esta saga.
HBO transmite esta serie y se nota bastante con dos aspectos, uno de ellos es su presupuesto, ya que se nota que tiene un presupuesto bastante alto debido a la gran calidad visual de los escenarios, los cuales son muy bastos, están muy bien hechos y también el vestuario de los personajes, que, aunque prefiero como se ven en las dos películas, no hay ninguna dudas que la calidad sigue siendo bastante alta. Otro de los aspectos que tanto caracteriza a HBO son las escenas de sexo, en las dos películas de Dune no vimos nada de eso, pero en esta serie hay al menos dos escenas que son innecesariamente largas y realmente no aportan nada a la historia, más allá del “morbo” que pueda causar dicha escena, pero esto es algo bastante característico de muchas de la serie de HBO y no digo que no se deberían hacer escenas de este estilo en series o películas, pero siento que este tipo de escenas en una serie basada en el universo de Dune es poco relevante. Ese y junto al aspecto musical, el cual a comparación con las dos películas, siento que le faltó más impacto, el nivel de la banda sonora de Dune y Dune: Parte Dos sobresaliente y simplemente magistral, pero en esta serie, pese a que en si no es una banda sonora mala, siento que le faltó esa chispa y como ya dije, ese impacto sonoro que impresiona al escuchar las dos películas de Dune.
Pero en fin, Dune: Prophecy ocurre más de 10.000 años antes del nacimiento de Paul Atraides y durante la serie, iremos viendo ciertos eventos que ocurrieron poco más de 80 después de la lucha contra las maquinas, pero esencialmente la serie se enfoca en poco más de 100 años luego de esa guerra. Esta serie es de gran importancia en la historia de esta franquicia ya que nos muestra el ascenso de la “Hermandad”, las cuales están conformadas por las Bene Gesserit, las cuales vemos en Dune y son las encargadas de prácticamente moldear el sistema gubernamental del universo. La serie se centra en Valya Harkonnen y en su hermana Tula Harkonnen, las cuales tienen un resentimiento puro contra la familia Atreides debido a un conflicto contra uno de los integrantes de esa familia que obligo al clan Harkonnen a exiliarse. Luego de esa guerra contra las maquinas pensantes, la humanidad se encuentra ante una construcción social y ante la prohibición de las IAS. Vemos el poder de manipulación de las Hermanas de las “Hermandad” y a la vez, vemos la corrupción y avaricia de parte de estas dos hermanas al querer tener un control total sobre los acontecimientos del gobierno universal.
La historia se cocina poco a poco, la historia avanza lentamente en ciertos aspectos pero de forma bastante coherente, quizás algunos personajes no tienen su adecuado desarrollo como el hijo, la hija del emperador, así como también con el maestro de espadas del imperio (el cual es un Atraides) pero debido al final de esta primera temporada, dan a entender que en la segunda, estos personajes tendrán mayor importancia en la historia. Esta serie se enfoca mas en conflictos políticos y de interes que en los momentos de epicidad que podremos apreciar en las películas, hay poca acción en la serie, pero cuando la hay es bastante buena en términos generales. Tanto la religión y la ciencia son aspectos fundamentales en el desarrollo de esta serie, aspectos que tambien vimos en las películas, pero esta vez lo vemos desde un alguno mucho mas “primitivo” a las películas, debido a que este es “origen” de una nueva humanidad posterior a la guerra que tenia a los humanos en total control de las maquinas pensantes.
Dune: Prophecy que aborda los temas con más pausas y más momentos para analizar lo que estamos viendo, hay muchos más momentos de silencio y quizás algunas escenas pueden llegar a ser algo densas, dejando a un lado las escenas de sexo que mencioné anteriormente, hay escenas en la serie que pueden llegar a ser lentas las cuales podrían haber recortado de producto final y no afectarían en nada al transcurso de la historia. El origen de las Bene Gesserit es bastante interesante y en esta serie vemos el uso de la “Voz” de una forma nunca vista en las películas, siendo que esas escenas me gustaron mucho más que en las películas, ya que son más impactantes. En definitiva es una excelente serie, perfecta para adentrarse a este universo de Dune, el cual es muy basto e interesante de aprender.

In short, I liked Dune: Prophecy quite a lot, with certain nuances that do not affect the story, but in general terms it is an entertaining series because it expands the universe and history of this saga.
HBO transmits this series and it is quite noticeable with two aspects, one of them is its budget, since it is noticeable that it has a quite high budget due to the great visual quality of the scenarios, which are very coarse, they are very well done and also the costumes of the characters, which, although I prefer how they look in the two movies, there is no doubt that the quality is still quite high. Another aspect that characterizes HBO so much are the sex scenes, in the two Dune movies we did not see any of that, but in this series there are at least two scenes that are unnecessarily long and really do not contribute anything to the story, beyond the "morbid" that may cause such a scene, but this is something quite characteristic of many of the HBO series and I'm not saying that there should not be scenes of this style in series or movies, but I feel that this type of scenes in a series based on the Dune universe is not very relevant. That and together with the musical aspect, which in comparison with the two films, I feel it lacked more impact, the level of the soundtrack of Dune and Dune: Part Two was outstanding and simply masterful, but in this series, although it is not a bad soundtrack, I feel it lacked that spark and as I said, that sound impact that impresses when listening to the two Dune films.

The story is cooked little by little, the story progresses slowly in certain aspects but quite coherently, perhaps some characters do not have their proper development as the son, the daughter of the emperor, as well as the master of swords of the empire (which is an Atraides) but due to the end of this first season, it is implied that in the second, these characters will have greater importance in the story. This series focuses more on political conflicts and interests than on the epic moments that we can appreciate in the movies, there is little action in the series, but when there is it is quite good in general terms. Both religion and science are fundamental aspects in the development of this series, aspects that we also saw in the movies, but this time we see it from a much more "primitive" to the movies, because this is "origin" of a new humanity after the war that had humans in total control of the thinking machines.
Dune: Prophecy that addresses the issues with more pauses and more moments to analyze what we are seeing, there are many more moments of silence and perhaps some scenes can become somewhat dense, leaving aside the sex scenes that I mentioned above, there are scenes in the series that can become slow which could have been cut from the final product and would not affect anything to the course of the story. The origin of the Bene Gesserit is quite interesting and in this series we see the use of the "Voice" in a way never seen in the movies, and I liked those scenes much more than in the movies, as they are more shocking. In short, it is an excellent series, perfect to get into this universe of Dune, which is very vast and interesting to learn.
