Twelve is an 8‑episode action‑fantasy series which is set to air on KBS2, August 23, 2025, Sat–Sun, 21:20 KST and will be streamed globally on Disney+ and U+ Mobile TV in South Korea.
It is a series that would blend everything I love watching out for, in my movies; mythology, superhero themes, and high‑octane action, which are all rooted in the lore of East Asian zodiac animals.
Premise
Centuries ago, twelve celestial beings, representing the Eastern zodiac animals, came to Earth in the form of humans. Their mission was to set a seal on the demonic forces threatening the Korean Peninsula. During the divine battle, four of the celestial beings were sacrificed, and in sorrow, the remaining eight retreated into human lives.
But dark forces of destruction would never rest and so they stir once more, with the evil spirit O-gwi reawakening.
The eight surviving celestial beings also known as angels must come out from their human shell again and reunite to fight the dark forces, and save humanity.
Now let's look at the "dream team" cast used for the "Twelve";
Ma Dong‑seok (Tae San) represents the Tiger and is the powerful leader of the 12 angels.
Park Hyung‑sik (O‑gwi) represents the Crow. He was supposed to be an angel but instead he became evil and embraced darkness. He awakens with terrifying power in the form of a glowing red gem in his chest.
Seo In‑guk (Won Seung) represents the Monkey. He is clever, alert, with ambitions to be Tae San's successor.
Lee Joo‑bin (Mir ) represents the Dragon. An angel whose powers were sealed alongside ancient evil.
Go Kyu‑pil (Don Yi) represents the Pig. A nurse working in the clinic and who's surprisingly very agile. He assists Bang Wool (Snake).
Kang Mi‑na (Gang Ji) represents the Dog. This one has a large heart and is driven to protect humanity.
Sung Yoo‑bin (Jwi Dol) represents the Rat. He is indispensable to the angelic team because of his intelligence.
Ahn Jihye (Mal Sook) is the Horse. Just like the swiftness of the horse, he is active in sequences with fierce presence.
Regina Lei (Bang Wool) is the Snake. A healer with vast knowledge in ancient healing techniques, and uses it to assist both angels and humans.
Sung Dong‑il (Ma Rok) happens to be the only human in the group and is also gifted by the gods to guide and support the angels in their mission.
With these star-studded ensemble, I can confidently say that we are in for the best of movies.
The Buzz around this movie is exceptional and the audience is in a frenzy, especially after the first poster was released. It featured the dramatic face‑off between Ma Dong‑seok and Park Hyung‑sik. This has since gone viral—crow-themed darkness versus the fierce tiger leader. Fans are already gearing up for the showdown and I can hardly wait to get started.
As a speculator, I would say this film has the potential of becoming one of K–drama's biggest hits of 2025.
My final Thoughts;
As a fan of fantasy, superhero and high octane action, coupled with the powerful cast, I have definitely added it to my watchlist.
I hope you would too!
