This 2019 Spanish film is a real hidden diamond, I was very surprised by its approach. Besides the fact that Spanish cinema is not very famous for its mystery works, it also mixes violence and almost gore.
Esta película española de 2019 es un verdadero diamante escondido, me sorprendió mucho su planteamiento. Además de que el cine español no es muy famoso por sus obras de misterio, mezcla además la violencia y casi el gore.
A very deep hole / Un hoyo muy profundo
In a dystopian future there is a prison called "El Hoyo" where prisoners are locked up in vertical cells for two prisoners on different levels. Our protagonist Goreng signs a contract to voluntarily enter it. Although he does not know what awaits him. Something very interesting is that the food comes down on a platform passing through each level, which causes that in the last floors there is no food and the prisoners have to fight for it or even resort to cannibalism in extreme occasions.
En un futuro distópico existe una prisión llamada “El Hoyo” donde los presos son encerrados en celdas verticales para dos prisioneros en diferentes niveles. Nuestro protagonista Goreng firma un contrato para voluntariamente entrar en ella. Aunque no sabe lo que le espera. Algo muy interesante es que la comida baja en una plataforma pasando por cada nivel, lo cual provoca que en los últimos pisos no haya comida y deban luchar por ella los prisioneros o incluso recurrir al canibalismo en ocasiones extremas.
Humanity has a dark side / La humanidad tiene un lado oscuro
The difficult conditions on the lower floors cause real carnage and drive the prisoners into madness and despair. In one scene Goreng is forced to eat his own companion in order to survive and avoid being eaten by him, the pit brings out the worst in humanity.
Las difíciles condiciones de los pisos inferiores provocan auténticas matanzas y hace que los prisioneros caigan en la locura y la desesperación. En una escena Goreng se ve obligado a comerse a su propio compañero para sobrevivir y evitar ser comido por este, el hoyo saca a relucir lo peor de la humanidad.
Performances / Actuaciones
The performances are quite good, especially that of the main character played by Iván Massagué, who acts masterfully throughout the film.
Las actuaciones son bastante buenas especialmente la del personaje principal encarnado por Iván Massagué, que actúa magistralmente durante todo el filme.
A critique of dehumanization / Una crítica a la deshumanización
The meaning of the film is deeply heartbreaking and critical of modern society, I definitely recommend it, there is much more to tell, I did not want to spoil too much for you to see it.
El significado de la película es profundamente desgarrador y crítico con la sociedad moderna, sin dudas la recomiendo, falta mucho más por contar, no quise spoilear mucho para que la vean
