Yo, I just watched Thunderbolts * (2025) and thoroughly enjoyed it! It reminded me of great Marvel movies from the past that thrilled us all and had us in awe of Marvel.
Not that this one is one of the greats, but it was a good attempt, I didn't find any plot flaw that disgusted me or took a lot away from the movie. I didn't find any remarkable clumsiness like we saw in Eternals and other subsequent Marvel movies.
I like the new heroes and their origin stories, and I like the fact that they're so vulnerable. Vulnerability is great for stories, when you make your characters too powerful then stories hardly make any sense because almost any challenge they come across the audience can think of a million ways for them to overcome it with their large repertoire of powers.
Like Superman, for example. It's surprising he ever throws a punch when he can simply laser a person non-lethally and stop them in a few seconds. It's surprising he's faster than Flash but he's usually not using his speed as much as Flash does. Etc.
These new set of Marvel heroes are great but vulnerable enough to make almost any challenge sound like fun and like a true challenge.
The Sentry seemed like he was going to be too powerful, I also especially love how it seemed like he was going to be an insurmountable villain that would require all the old heroes to come, that was some really great plot. At first it seemed like it was kinda convenient for a guy like that to arrive and bring back the old Avengers, but then that twist hit!
And he turned out to be a hero who has a villainous side. It would be great to see how that plays out in future stories. Too many great stuff can come out of this.
But Then...
All these Marvel movies that don't say much about old heroes always feel some type of way. Like how is it possible all those guys are just nowhere to be found when huge events are happening and now it's the little guys that have to take care of it. That's kinda too convenient.
I understand they have to be away but we'd need more explanation about what is keeping them away.
In Thunderbolts for example, we all know that Bucky is great friends with the new Captain America (Formerly known as Falcon), and Bucky needed all the help he could get to stop de Fontaine, there's no way Captain America is not the first person he calls, especially after their adventures in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), and in Brave New World (2025).
So why was there not a serious explanation about why he wasn't coming? It just feels too convenient like the story just wants the focus to be on these new guys without minding the elephant in the room. LOL.
Most of the Marvel movies that focus on a few heroes in the same world with all the other heroes usually make this mistake, and this is usually my problem with them. Anyways I still go ahead to enjoy what I can, though, and Thunderbolts was very enjoyable. Once I ignored that of course 😅.
