Obsession (2023) - Episode 1 - Personal Thoughts

Today I wanted to watch something different, something out of the mainstream AAA TV series, I'm constantly looking for rough gems, its rare to see mini series becoming popular and most go under the radar, not many are good enough to attract a lot of viewers, in Obsession there are a few familiar faces Charley Murphy from Halo and Indira Varma aka the infamous Ellaria Sand from the Sand Snakes on Game of Thrones, Richard Armitage mostly known as Thorin from The Hobbit and many other important roles so the cast is not a problem here, they all experts when it comes to bring a character alive.

Richard Armitage plays William Farrow a very well recognize surgeon who recently pull one of the hardest procedure, to separate Siamese twins, I'm not sure how hard is that still today but from what I remember is very complicated, William fall in love with Charley Murphy playing Anna Barton his soon to be daughter in law, Anna tries to keep William and his son Jay close to her but eventually the truth will come to the light.

This is a classic story and I don't expect nothing special, mostly is about the actors of this mini series to make things interesting, I don't think the script will be anything extraordinary and probably that's why it doesn't have much audience and the scores are very low.

This mini series is predictable, I would prefer if it was backwards when it comes to Charley and Indira but age makes the difference, the environment looks very fancy and that's one of the appeals for me besides the cast.

William Farrow a renounce surgeon who enjoy his job, he is proud of his achievements and it feels like he enjoy saving lives, on the picture above he smiles when one of the doctors tells him the twins are stable and everything went great, at least this scene indicates he is a good man but we all have weaknesses or moments were we are vulnerable, FYI I'm not making excuses for what's about to happen next but we need to recognize the situation for what it is, William looks like a good surgeon , father and husband but who knows what inside his head, what kind of desire got him to fall for Anna.

Ingrid Farrow, William's lovely and gorgeous wife who is very interested and care for him, demonstrating affection every moment they are next to each other. On this series there are some sexual scenes, nothing explicit or that I would consider soft porn but this is not for kids. Through the entire episode Ingrid is all in for her husband and family so I'm intrigue why William decides to cheat on his wife, the only thing that comes to mind is because Anna is younger, they didn't know each other before his son told him about her and they met during a doctors gathering an event to congregate colleagues.

This is Jay Farrow, William's son, Anna's boyfriend, they are living large in a big house out of the city, his father a simple man but one of the most successful surgeon in the country probably makes a lot of money. On the first episode there is not much to say about Jay other that he was not too sure at first about letting his family met Anna yet but his sister worn him down and kept asking who the special lady is until he gives in and tells them about Anna.

The question that will keep coming back to your head while you watch the first episode is WHY, why did William do it. The relationship between father and son seems to be great, they talk, laugh, there is a scene latter where Jay calls his father to talk about Anna since he feels his mother doesn't like her for some reason, Jay trust his father.

One may think its William who gets obsess with Anna for numerous forbidden reasons but I think its backwards and she will do what ever it takes to get to William even using Jay to reach her goal, I say this just from watching the first episode.

William sits at the bar and she quickly approach him, saying hello and who she is with already a goal in mind, she acts all sexy and seductive without William making any moves on her, the guy is weak and probably doesn't know how to stop or say no to her, for both men and women who are not flatter or on board by a stranger constantly this situations are not easy to handle and that is understandable.

This is the part where William failed as a husband and father, basically everything went down south for him, he lies to his wife when she tells Anna was at the event too and he says didn't know or met her and then gets a call and safe the her contact as A, all this is so predictable and I think that's when viewers get bored expecting something more intriguing. Anna finally gets invited for dinner with Jay's family and here also William fails and kept saying lies to his wife Ingrid, basically to everyone on that table, his entire family was there, plus the fact that Anna was constantly harassing him around the house every second they were left alone and I think only his daughter caught it.

When ever some one is cheating in a relationship doesn't matter who it is, their personal life starts to deteriorate. Anna finally invites William to his place and as expected they had sex but a short five minute thing, it was very weird from both sides but mostly from hers, she was manipulative and offer herself as a kinda of sacrifice to him, probably in her mind William is a God, who knows why she is so obsess with him.

Here son and father having a beer discussing why Ingrid doesn't like Anna, William already had sex with her.

The worst part of this story is that his family is going down with him son, wife even his daughter will be affected if by any chance she becomes close with Anna, that's very possible considering Anna will start stocking William and spend more time at his place probably with the excuse of been next to Jay but I'm sure having sex at his place will be one of her goals, obsess women like her the final goal is to become his wife, replace Ingrid.

I wanted to watch this mini series to bring something different to my blog, this kind of stories never end well considering this one is more complicated as it involves the entire family not just William's wife, problem with William is that he probably haven't live enough, too quiet, too well behave, he haven't visit the dark side of life, I have been there a few times many years ago and now I can say its not worth it, I would prefer to be alone than having all this kind of problems, its just not fun and the consequences could be mayor. In the case of William he could loose his family, his job or even his life when Anna do not accept to stop seen each other because that's coming too for sure. This is my impression without seen any of the other episodes.
