First of all this is a very difficult contest. I mean very difficult. There are many excellent films out there.
I will talk about 'Wolfwalkers'. One extra reason for the animated film i chose is so that more people will learn about that film.
It is made by Tomm Moore and is part of the "Irish Folklore Trilogy". The previous films are 'The Secret of Kells' (2009) and 'Song of the Sea' (2014).
'Wolfwalkers' is a Celtic inspired adventure. In the old times people see wolves as demonic and evil. A father with his young daughter come to Ireland to kill the last pack of wolves. The young daughter saves a wild native girl and becomes friends with her. Soon after she watches her friend to transform into a wolf. After that she steps into the world of Wolfwalkers. The world that her father is trying to destroy.
Through this animation film you learn about friendship. About love and loss. You see how people destroy their environment. After the end credits a warmth in your heart will remain.
You know what to expect but the way the story unfolds is really good.
The voice acting is excellent and the music superb. The animation is top notch. It is very fluid and the palette of colors they used fits the mood of the film. Forget computer generated animation. Only pure hand drawn animation. Also the film was nominated for an Oscar.
All in all it is a well crafted film. Absolutely fantastic and i recommend it to children and to 'big' children.
