Whomever is watching or has watched the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise closely, doesn't need an introduction to the character Wanda Maximoff, better known as Scarlett Witch. Of course comic book fans - especially the X-Men readers - included, though I will only focus on the MCU adaptation today.
Wanda had first appeared in the MCU alongside Pietro - her twin brother - in a cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and had made a full appearance together in Avengers: Age of Ultron the following year. As of now she has turned up in five films within the franchise and in 2021 in the miniseries WandaVision and the animated series What if...?
Knowing Wanda's full potential and what a powerhouse she can be, I was a bit disappointed with her first portrayals and I remember voicing that to my friends, after having watched Age of Ultron. It was a delight to see some of her telepathic and telekinetic powers finally come to "life" on the big screen of course, in juxtaposition to what I've seen in the comics and animated series.
But having her backstory altered - for legal reasons back then - and her powers toned down on screen was a bit of a disappointment. It was only till the fifth movie appearance, that we could see the full potential of her powers and this was even mentioned by Okoye by asking "Why was she up there all this time?" when Wanda finally entered the battlefield.
From then on, Wanda's powers have only been expanding and we've also got to see some of a backstory of her life before she became an Avenger in WandaVision, wherein multiple comic book storylines were cleverly weaved. Especially the House of M storyline, that portrayed the full scale of her powers: her warping of reality, chaos magic and elemental manipulation. It can only get better from there I hope.
