After the @stickupboys did Tom and @mypathtofire took Leo, I only had one ace up my leave to trump these guys.
I had to play the Christopher Walken card in the CineTV Contest #17- Your Favorite Actor or Actress.
The Man, The Myth, The legend and still walking this earth and I guess he´s still 39 (Ref. Prophecy 2).
Christopher Walken played in approx. 90 movies, but I think the first time I noticed him was in 1985´s A View to a Kill, where Bond, unfortunately, comes out on top in his battle with Max Zorin (Christopher Walken).
Now you might expect that The Deer Hunter our Catch me if you can to be his best movies ever. They were not, according to Rotten Tomatoes it was Annie Hall. I am not gonna argue with that, even though I do not agree.
The Prophecy Trilogy
For me Christopher Walken = An Angel
For me, he is the personification of Archangel Gabriel, Gabe for friends.
Christopher Walken and his role of Gabriel were a match made in heaven.
Forgive me Lord for I will sin. I will refer to Christopher Walken as Gabe during ther rest of this article (as he needs to compete with Leo and Tom).
Gabe starts out in The Prophecy Part 1(aka Gods Army) as this dark sick F of an Angel
I'm an angel. I kill firstborns while their mamas watch. I turn cities into salt. I even, when I feel like it, rip the souls from little girls. From now 'til kingdom come, the only thing you can count on in your entire existence... is never understanding why.
Gabe´s quote sends shivers down my spine. That kinda makes sense him being the Angel of Death and Vengeance. In that role he is sniffing out where that sickest soul ever occupying a human body went. He needs that bastard to break the stalemate in heaven.
Next to very interesting biblical references, the way the angels are portrayed is amazing.
Gabe is able to play the most convincing Angelic character I have ever seen.
An angel has no soul, an Angel is an instrument of God, an Angel is forever, and has been there forever.
Leave it to Gabriel to make you believe Angels do exist and are not the warm and fuzzy characters they are made out to be.
Throughout the Prophecy series (Part 1 to 3) we see Gabe turn more human, as he becomes what he fears the most.
And of course, as in any good American movie he ends up being the good Angel in Part 3, well kinda good anyway.
This is a bit unfortunate as I personally love the old Gabe (the younger one from Part 1) the best.
Still, Mr. Walken plays the transformation in such a way that he allows the trilogy to get away with it.
But come on, who can beat this weird guy sitting with those cute kids on his lap, checking their mouths for that lost soul. He looks so perfectly out of place.
Save the Best for Last
My favorite part is how Gabriel's horn is incorporated in that scene. A reference to archangel Gabriel that blows his horn to announce Judgment Day. But also a particular geometric figure that has infinite surface area but finite volume.
If you know that and then see what Gabe does with his eyes and posture when he calls after the kids, that was made to leave his lap,: "Study your Math Kids, it´s the Key to the Universe."
This role turned Gabe into my all-time favorite actor by far. It will take a lifetime, if not angels lifetime to find an actor who can trump(et) Christopher Walken.
Encore
Prophecy Part 1 Full Movie
My Favorite scene (School Stairs)
Just watch those and tell me that Christopher Walken is not the god-gifted archangel of actors.
Dear reader, please do not make the same mistake I did. I have watched the whole series, but you should only watch the first 3 parts.
