Hi folks!
It's been a couple of days I couldn’t write anything. I was so busy with my studies and paid a short visit nearby water park with some of my friends. Today, I'm not here to tell you about that trip. Rather, I want to share another incident that made me thoughtful.
Recently, a new curriculum has been introduced afore my students. The traditional academic system has been removed and the core importance is given to summative acquired experience that the students can apply into real life problem solving. Many of my students have mix reaction about their new curriculum.
Their entire textbook has been modified and many new experiences has been introduced before them. As it is considered as a new approach towards an overall curriculum implementation, there arises many new issues that should be corrected in the coming academic year.
Our educational policies were so primitive that we literally have to struggle with the current competitive world. 21st Century skills are a must for this new generation. If a student fails to meet those requirements, he/she must fall behind and that is why the education policymakers came forward to meet this challenge.
I am teaching English as a second language in Secondary Schools. And I know how approaches like communicative and creative practice failed to meet the desired goal. Our students desperately involved with imbibing the given syllabus and they almost forget most of their learning after their final examination. Their real learning potentials were decreasing day by day.
I can share an experience of my own during my graduation days. My Professor told us that our education system should be changed because of it’s lack of integration with the real need of the present time. Many of us were there to study English Literature which was a hard nut to creak situation for us. We were just memorizing our answers, some grammar rules and communicative assessment modules. But the crucial factor was that we were completely unaware of the basics of a literature to encounter with.
However, I can see many positive implementation of topics that can help my students to avoid situations similar to me. They are now familiar with the genres of literature and gaining the basic concepts of language and it’s proper purpose of real life implementation. If a student try to go through the designed syllabus, he/she can easily learn the concepts that can help them establish their ground for further exploration of knowledge.
Many parents think that their children will fail to meet the desired skill and will not be able to get good job and better future. But that is not the real scenario, the actual fact is the students are now gaining expertise and their knowledge is sharpening with the rages of time.
When a student from this curriculum will go for higher studies they will get the benefit of applied knowledge and be a good researcher. Aiming at the core issue of unemployment and overpopulation the policymakers tried to implement a new type of curriculum that will contribute to decrease these issues.
When a skill or experience is learned, it is learned for life long and the individual can implement that experience in their further life. To meet the challenges of 21st century, every individuals should come forward to enlighten themselves with the idea of self employment and economic balance. The researchers and policy makers predicted that the subtle number of entrepreneurs and personal freedom of self employment will increase with the introduction of this new generation.
In the field of research and further exploration and in Science as well as in the sector of technology our next generation will shine. Though there are some shortcomings but I am so hopeful about this new way of thinking towards the whole educational system.
I know it will definitely take some time for adoption. Both the teachers and the students are new to this system; proper training and positive motivation for the teachers is a must. If the whole parties from different sectors come forward to work together with a collaborative mind; there will be a better future for all of us.
That's brings me to the end of today’s introductory talk on new curriculum which has been introduced to my country. Definitely it requires some time and hard-working for the implementation; but if the things goes well and most importantly the students are eagerly participating in this new way of learning. And that is what make me more hopeful about it.
Next time I will try to come up with a detailed observation and implementation of this new curriculum for my students and give you updates about the progress. Till then,
Be happy and stay with knowledge.
Peace!
