Hello, fellow educators and readers. This would be my first post in the Education community about one of my English classes. My (cyber)name is Nomnomnoodle and I'm a learning designer/teacher from Thailand. It's nice to see the community as passionate about education as I am. I hope we can encourage each other and help build a better education, especially for the next generation.
Noted: All the photos that'll be posted are approved and signed both the Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct and PDPA document by the students and everyone involved.
Quick work-related introduction: I've always had a passion for education and learning. I used to be a full-time teacher in an underprivileged school here in Bangkok, where I live now. I work as an independent learning designer both in and outside of the classroom. **Like this voluntary project, I've been working on with the NGO called 'KlongToey Dee Jung' and UNICEF Thailand. **
Our outdoor English classroom is located in an area called Klong-Toey, one of the biggest slums (๐) in Bangkok. So, the purpose of the English class is to learn about conversational English and most important to HAVE FUN! For the class, I'm responsible for designing and executing the lesson plan with my team, working as a teachers assistant (TA).
Me briefing the team on what's gonna happen today and assigning the tasks.
Our objective for the class today is that the students will be able to buy and bargain for clothing and use their creativity to put together 2 outfits for the runway later. So, we had to start the morning with the vocabulary and useful phrases.
First, I let them know what activity we will be doing today and gave them a worksheet, in which they can take notes on the pronunciations and meanings.
This is what the worksheets look like.
These are some of the slides from the class.
Starts with the vocabulary, which classified the words into different groups, so the students can easily learn them.
Clothing
The important verbs that'll be used and the translation in Thai.
Awww my concentrating and hard-working students~
But.. How can I know that they're really concentrated and hard-working? They might just be doodling on that beautiful worksheet and didn't learn anything at all.. So, I have to test them by using KAHOOT. The interactive game that plays together in real-time.
And to go on the lunch break, they have to work in a group with the TAs to create a dialog between the seller and the customer by using the words and phrases we learned.
Well, Looks like I run out of space for this post already, but I'll still want to show you guys about what happened later in the afternoon. How the students create their outfits and walk the runway. Also, I haven't got the chance to tell you why I called this activity `The FACEยด at all. I promise everything will be revealed in the next post.
Again, I want to thank you guys for creating this education community. Moreover, please feel free to ask or share anything with the comments down below and I'll see you guys again soon.
Khob khun kaa,
Nomnomnoodle ๐
