Yesterday, I shared, how the path of dharma diffrentiates human being from animal. Dharma often used in place Religion does not convey its true meaning, as the concept of Dharma in Sanskrit is very broad. In its most basic sense, Dharma refers to what is right and true, and it's often associated with upholding order and harmony. A person who dedicately follows the path of Dharma gain certain attributes. These attributes are explain in following Sanskrit verses :
धृतिः क्षमा दमोsस्तेयं शौचमिन्द्रियनिग्रहः |
धीर्विद्या सत्यमक्रोधो दशकं धर्मं लक्षणम ||
Dhratih kshmaa damosteyem shauchmindriyanigrahh
Dheervidyaa satyamakrodho dashakam Dharma lakshnam.
Dhriti = patience.
Kshmaa = forgiveness.
Dama = Courage, punishing some one for his wrongdoings.
Asteya = not indulging in theft.
Asteya - a = not + steya = theft Shauch = keeping body clean (body hygiene)
Indriya nigrah = control over sensory organs.
Dhee = intelligence.
Vidyaa = Learning,
Satya = truthfullness
Akrodha = not being angry, cool headed.
(A+ Krodha) - A = not & Krodha = anger
Dashakam = ten
Patience, forgiveness, courage, not indulging in theft, cleanliness of body, control over sensory organs, intelligence, being learned, truthfulness and control over anger, these are the ten attributes of Dharma.
A person, who possesses these qualities is called Dharmik i.e.steeped in Dharma. They strictly follow them in daily routine and never swayed away from the path of Dharma. The practice of living in accordance with Dharma principles, fostering a virtuous and ethical life. Dharma is a multifaceted concept that encompasses a wide range of principles and virtues, all aimed at guiding individuals towards a life of righteousness, meaning, and purpose.
