It doesn't take a lot of provocation for people to realize that they are capable of being dangerous and causing chaos.
Somehow, the ability to cause mayhem and inflict pain on others is something we have as humans. It is our existential gift from our maker, but that doesn't mean we have to go around, messing people up and beating the crap out of anyone we cross paths with.
Look at it this way;
Being capable of inflicting pain on people isn't a virtue except if we are capable of having it under control. That self-control is what I rate highly and it's very easy to notice that there is high civility whenever people learn to control the violent side of their being.
However, the reverse is the case for someone or a group of people who explore their violent side without mastering the act of self-control. People like that can walk on the street and threaten just anyone because they feel they have the ability to do so.
With that level of loose control of one's violent side, it is not uncommon to come across people in society who are ready to go above and beyond to display violence even when the situation at hand doesn't call for any violence.
The fact that people get mugged and killed for no justifiable reason and the high rate of violence we see in society, including cases of violence at schools and households, shows that a whole lot of people are not in control of their violent side. And, that's a really dangerous thing.
It makes you wonder what will be the case when such people get into a position where they can legally get hold of really dangerous weapons. Let's say, the armed forces. If a Policeman or military man can't be in control of his violent side, all hell will surely be let loose.
This is quite ironic because I'm sure the men in our Police force do a lot of violent things against civilians 'just because they can' and they do it without remorse. It gets to the point where they point their gun at citizens and open fire for flimsy reasons. That's exactly when you will get to understand that they have gone too far. And, it's wrong in every way.
I daresay that despite the capacity we all have to be violent and cause pain, what I would consider more heroic is an ability to have self-control over that violent side of our existence.
