In Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, an armored vehicle attack early on Sunday resulted in the deaths of 10 security personnel and four prisoners.
Government representatives provided this information.
In a statement, the Chihuahua prosecutor's office claimed that about 7 a.m., gunmen in armored vehicles drove up to the jail and started shooting at security staff. In addition to the 13 additional security employees and at least 24 inmates that were injured, 10 security personnel and four prisoners were killed in the shooting.
According to the statement, state police and Mexican military retook control of the facility Sunday night. The situation is being looked at.
It's important to note that 11 individuals died at the Juarez jail during the riots in August.
Prior to Sunday's assault on the jail, municipal police were attacked, according to the prosecutor's office. But the cops pursued and apprehended the four assailants. The two accused shooters in the SUV were eventually killed by the police.
Information indicated that several convicts' family were waiting to receive them on New Year's Day outside the campus. Chaos erupted in the jail and its surroundings following the gunmen's shooting incident.
According to local media, several angry convicts fought with prison guards and set fire to a number of objects within the facility.
However, it is still unknown how the 24 inmates managed to escape.
Investigations into the attack's causes are ongoing.
