Worldbuilding is my task, the game development of gnar world does not progress until i finish my job. It involves building models and creating areas for them in Godot.
brazil
I wanted to put brazil in the game, so i needed to model the stuff that I needed. I wanted to create a place called Praca XV, in downtown Rio De Janeiro.
I went to @pharra's instagram and found this :
But i already made a copacabana sidewalk texture while I was in brazil so i started with making a road out of that.
i ended up sidequesting on rigging a plant to have animated in the background.
Success! but i am not sure how having animated models effects performance, i think it does effect performance, whereas animating VIA godot does not. this is very important. and I might end up taking these objects out of the game if it becomes a problem. its a problem because they are animating all of the time, even when the player isnt near them... which is dope, but kinda wastes computer power.
So then I began Building. I was also working with subject matter from this post.
Plaza 15 looks sweet. Then, there was one other thing I wanted to add...
this thing
So i did...
Bonus points for building this is I discovered the perfect way to make quarterpipes, using the inside of a Torus.
The fact they have a torus as a primitive shape is dope. I need to figure out how to makea shader so I can apply it to the torus. it would look so cool. like a fountain or something. Or like a UFO.
I think Brazil turned out pretty cool. I still need to add the favela to the mountain. I also need to add @alexandrefeliz as an NPC doing his thing.
art district
I had some sculptures on my list that I wanted to model for the art district.
dubuffetpicassocalder- spitting faces
san fran fountain
I am just realizing I did SO much this dev cycle. its probably enough for like 3 posts. but i dont want to waste time creating 3 posts so its just going to contain it all.
Sidequested to make some traps models.
Discovered how to download google earth data in LA. And with the help of a friend put it into blender and looked at it isometrically. amd from the sides, which removed any perspective.
I decided to use these as tilesets for some buildings.
Made a marble texture to use as the roads int eh art district.
The fountain from Embarcedaro San Fransisco had to get stuck in the area between the beach district and the art district.
added a rollercoaster that doesnt work
another sidequest was creating a rollercoaster that is supposed to follow a path. i didnt get it to follow the path but i also had to just stop and move on because this isnt a high priority right now..
creating a farm
Today, i created a farm part on the map with a crop circle.
First, Crocotile.
Then, straight into Godot.
Boom. all in 3 hours. I am starting to get good at this. If i can be this productive every day i would be done worldbuilding in a few weeks haha.
Oh yeah. I also made another larger palm tree that was on my list and kinda sprinkled it on the beach to kinda tie that up.
things still on the list to model
gas station
favela
market tents
zoo animals
--animal cage
--gorilla
--giraffe
--shark
--pigeon
--sea turtlefairgrounds
--roller coaster car
--roller coaster lattice
--RV campers
--circus tents
I'll probably just go down that list in that order, and then methodically go place them in the world in Godot, which would probably make up my next devlog. Making those animals is going to be a new thing though. I dont know if i want to rig them in godot or crocotile.
areas in the world that currently have basically nothing in them and need to be "worldbuilt" before moving on.
- casino district
- nature district
- zoo district
there are 7 districts. each corresponding to a chakra in the body.
well actually now there are 8 after making brazil lol but no-- brazil is in the nature district. the nature district is huge on the map so in the godot node tree i have brazil as its own district but it's really just a part of the nature district.
some districts are bigger than others but all of them must have love put into them to the same degree.
Have you looked at google earth in a while? its insane now how detailed the 3d models are.
