I’ve been using AI to help illustrate my posts on HIVE for a few months now. I use a Discord Bot Interface implemented by one of HIVEs best witnesses known as @ausbitbank. He’s such a quiet achiever I probably wouldn’t even know who he is except he also hails from Australia and he’s been here longer than I have (since June 2016). Anyway, it’s really easy to use his AI Arty Bot and you can check it out HERE if you want to have a play. For occasional usage like me, it’s completely FREE. I’ve been getting the hang of it, but not in the way that I had originally expected….

When I first started with Arty I was trying to imagine a picture in my head and then describe it to Arty to draw for me. It was frustrating at first because I couldn’t get it to match what was in my head. I started looking up AI Language Processing and trying to figure out syntax and command structures to get it working better. As a coder this shouldn’t have been too hard but I struggled with it…..so I went the other way. I gave up trying to reproduce images that I had in my head and started using vague and short descriptions and themes of pictures to let the AI come up with something wacky. I have found the results have been hilarious. This post is a bit of a roll-up of some of the amusing images I’ve generated with Arty and ended up including in my posts.

This one was just supposed to be “a fat banker in a suit smoking a cigar” and Arty went over the top with a picture of a guy holding 3 cigars. Using an enormous cigar to light another one in his mouth while holding a 3rd in his other hand. The picture is completely ridiculous but my post was writing about a ridiculous subject and the shifty side-wards glance of the banker was just the icing on the cake. I found the picture hilariously absurd and just had to use it.

This was described to Arty as “an exasperated trader on the floor of the new york stock exchange” and Arty pretty much nailed it with the stupefied, even cross-eyed look on the guys face which was more than I asked for but was exactly what I wanted. Again my post was about a ridiculous subject so the picture Arty generated fit perfectly and gave me another great laugh.

This was supposed to be “a friendly monster conducting a laboratory experiment” and it’s definitely got the right vibes with beakers of bubbling liquids. However, the monster itself looks to be wearing a rounded beaker of bubbling green liquid as pants, which kind of suggested the monster was also experimenting on himself. Another piece of brilliance from Arty that I would never have thought of, but it fit the theme of my post beautifully.

My post from yesterday was simply “a friendly monster holding gold coins” but take a look at this guy. This monster looks like a complete maniac and it’s not just a couple of gold coins, he’s got stacks of them! I was just looking to physically represent the tokens and rewards being earnt, but I was writing for the Silver Gold Stackers so the over-the-top representation of gold coins was once again amusing and fit the theme of my post better than I imagined in my head.
There are plenty of other examples too. I’ve had Lions driving Lambos and looking confused in a post-apocalyptic landscape. Goofy little monsters doing various things. Lots of gold coins, beaches, robots, mermaids and lightning storms. It really is pretty amazing what Arty can create and I’ve certainly found that it’s imagination is pretty wild….absurd….and hilarious all at the same time.
