It's The End Of The World
It really could be the end of the world!
I drove to Kent yesterday evening to spend some time with some of my family members that flew over for the wedding over the weekend. It was time that we could spend together chatting without having to scream over a billion decibels of music. The star of the show was my cousin's little 2 year old daughter who kept giving me hugs. 😍
The conversation inevitably went towards current events, particularly what's happening in Israel/Palestine. Now my family is ultra-religions. Two of the people there have even had seminary training, one being an actual theologian and pastor. I happen to be a geek and an end-times expert, as well as a post-apocalyptic guru. Haha. You can imagine what the conversation was like.
In Abrahamic religions, especially Christianity and Islam, the end can't come without the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, an all-out war against the jews and the coming of the antichrist. There are all manner of extraordinary events that are to take place in sequence prior, and in tandem with, the aforementioned events also. Said events include a global plague, extreme weather, mass famine, an explosion of knowledge (science and technology), mass atheism, destruction of the most important Abrahamic temples, global single currency, one world government, and so on.
If you didn't already know, looking at the above, you can understand why the extreme right wing, and the religious wing of most political parties, oppose anything to do with single currencies, globalisation, the United Nations, and the idea of climate change. It's also why many are anti-vax. The holy books warn of the imposition of a "mark" on everyone on earth "without which one will be unable to function in society". Sound familiar? A lot of it is based on Abrahamic religious faith.
The world has "ended" a few times in my lifetime. It ended in March 1982 during The Jupiter Effect. I was too young to remember or understand what was happening but I remember being really afraid and wanting to be near my parents all the time. The world ended a couple of times in the following years with the most definitive end being Y2K at the turn of the millennium. Ironically, the frenzy around the "Millennium Bug" meant the world was so prepared for it that nothing really happened. The clocks simply ticked over to 00:00 and carried on ticking. It was probably the anticlimax of the past thousand years.
This time it is different though.

For the first time since the world has been ending, humanity actually now posses the power to put a definitive end to life on this planet. Human life anyway - fungi and roaches would probably survive and repopulate. Millions of years from now there could be a race of sentient mushrooms running the planet and digging up our remains wandering what happened to us.
Apart from the United States and Russia, many countries now also posses the power to wipe us all out. The obvious ones are the countries with nukes; France, UK, Israel, Pakistan, India, China, North Korea. Now, however, we have sequenced the human genome. It means we now have to power to create RNA weapons that are very effective (as a certain event in the recent past demonstrates). Bio-weapons have now equaled nuclear in it's potential to create an extinction level event. Mind you, with bio-weapons, the nature of biology is that there will be a few people who will naturally poses immunity to whatever it is. Due to the genetic diversity of Africa, that's probably where they are. So, in another few hundred thousand years, we may see another genetic out of Africa style genetic bottleneck.
But, seriously, things are rather serious. The end times could actually happen this time!
Peace & Love,
Adé
