Since the freeze dryer was on a long cycle it gave me time to get the kitchen a bit more organized. With the addition of the dryer it takes up a substantial footprint. Where I have it sitting now was where the tupperware shelves stood. We have found which of the stuff we use most often while a good amount of it has sat on the shelves collecting dust.
I spent a couple of hours emptying the cabinets of the 20+ water bottles and other items and made enough room to then stack all of the most often used tupperware items. The rest are in a box that will end up in the pantry once I can get it organized. That way we will still have access to the stuff but it won't be taking up needed space. I will be building a shelving unit that will be attached to the wall above the freeze dryer in place of the shelving unit.
After getting the kitchen stuff done I went up to the studio and spent time finishing the walls. The last section to do was this one around the breaker box and outlet/switch boxes.
This now ends our irregularly scheduled work on the walls, stay tuned for the floor installation as that should come before the ceiling.
At this point the floor is not insulated and is probably the source of most of the cold in the studio now. While I don't have 240v wired in yet I can still use the 120v for the oil heater which should do okay with the floor done. Until then it is just emanating cold.
I got my adapter for the antenna so I am now using my SDR with the discone. This morning the ISS passed almost right overhead and I was able to see the signal from it on 145.72Mhz. I tried to record it in CubicSDR but the signal might have been too weak. Not sure, I'm still learning. My hope is to be able to pull down the SSTV image around Christmas time. I saw the ISS signal today so it gives me hope.
I have a couple barrels of grain to pick up today, the load in the freeze dryer finished at 6:00am this morning after 40 hours and the millet, rice, and beans came out PERFECT! I am looking to start pushing the tons of frozen trout I have through the freeze dryer but I have to figure out the best way to do it. I might have to thaw them enough to fillet them as I am not sure what would happen to the bones in the processing. Maybe I will just have to try a load of the smallest of the fish to see. Thick items don't do the best in the dryer though so may have to hack them in half. All part of the fun of the experimenting. If anything the fish can get ground down for pet food if it comes out wonky or gnarly.
