Yesterday morning brought us more rain. It started about 8 am and lasted until after 11 am. This morning I emptied the gauge which had .09 inches and this year we have gotten 1.53 inches of rain so far this month. Last year we only got .05 inch of rain for the same 19 days of May. Dramatically different.
Much of the morning while it rained was spent in the shed continuing the organizing of the tools and fasteners. The small tool box sitting atop the main tool chest has now been emptied of the hodge podge of things it had collected over the years and been dedicated to blades and cutting tools, tapes and adhesives, and screen tools. I also installed the 2x6 as a shelf for the drill and batteries to save on the ever precious open table space.
I went to get the trailer setup for hooking up after scouts and I took the time to change out my one ratchet strap. It has gotten super rusted and it refuses to work easily anymore. I have a slew of them so I found the one with the handle I liked and swapped the end for a newer hook from a different ratchet.
I also changed out the strap as it had gotten worn partially through on the metal of the trailer frame. This strap holds the whole mess down to the trailer and is imperative that it is strong and not going to break. I cut the strap down and melted the end since I don't need a full 24 feet of strap.
After picking J up from school while we had some sun peaking through the clouds a system came through and dumped more rain for a half hour before moving off east. Eventually the sun peaked back out as the clouds cleared off some.
Made dinner and a paper grocery bag of popcorn got the boys out of the house just in time for us to get to the grange for the scout meeting. The main point of the meeting was to set dates for the rest of the summer meetings and camp outs. The boys all ate popcorn and ran around chasing each other all around the grange. We have our camp outs set for mid week at the tree house the end of June and August. June we can have camp fires and August they can swim.
After getting home I hooked up the trailer and loaded empties into the truck for my trip to town this morning.
All the tilling did a number on my back again and I have too work out a bunch of knots that keep putting my arms to sleep if they are in the wrong position. I did get my order in for rolls of plastic and more irrigation tubing which will be here next week.
I have been to town already and dropped J at school. In a bit I will empty the barrels of grain while dodging the rain that is heading south towards us, I need to clean up misc plastic pieces floating around the farm, the soaker hose pile goes to a big tub, and I am thinking I will move my storage cage for the row cover next to the planting pots on the other side of the shed.
