I woke at 3:30 am yesterday morning to the crack of thunder overhead and I remembered that the kids had left stuff out on the table in the yard. I ran out to get it and then managed to go back to sleep for a while. When I got up a bit later there was .05" in the gauge. While soaking the clouds moving past had a heavy rain look to the undersides.
The system that moved past overnight.
By 9am the clouds had passed and the sun came out for the day.
In order to keep working on the fence I had to cut a bunch of weeds and brush back and while I was at it I made a pass around the inner perimeter of the main garden.
The fence line area is cleared back a good 6 feet farther than it had been.
Once I was done with the weedeater I installed 4 fence posts and pulled the 4 foot tall wire through the chokecherries and tied it into the short section of fence by the gear shed. The length made it perfectly to the post on the right which I pounded in without measuring the fence, it just worked out perfectly.
I then unrolled the new 6 foot fence and installed it to the post for the gate to the creek. I bypassed the huge fir tree on the left that the fence had been attached to so that now the fence will stay straighter and it gives a bit more space in the yard. The goal is to have all the gardens fenced off so that once I get the field fence run down the hillside the dog will have over an acre of space to roam and help keep predators out.
It took me about 40 minutes to get the squash rows all weeded which filled two tubs. I threw it all to the sheep who devoured it quickly.
Then the basil/marigold and tomato rows got weeded.
Last was the cucumber row and most of the one bean row next to it. I had to be done weeding so I could go in and get dinner ready early since we had scouts.
The boys made paper rockets inside the grange and then we went out to the field and they used pvc and 2 liter bottles to shoot them into the air.
A couple of shots went well over 50 feet in the air and all of the kids had a blast.
Back home we went up to the studio too see @stryeyz who had put together her bistro set for the deck. Jax loves the perch where he can look out over the farm.
After a much needed shower I headed out for the nice sunset soak.
Rained again early this morning but nearly as much. I have more fencing to work on, need to get setup for the railing install on the studio deck, I am consolidating the junk piles to one for a dump run in the near future, need to gather logging cables for the tree felling I will need to do soon, I have to transplant 4 more volunteer tomatoes and one tomatillo, and I HAVE to setup the ladder as an orchard ladder to pick the cherries.
