Intimacy does not always lead to sexuality, and I think many people confuse these terms, intimacy can be linked to a very close friendship or trust relationship, or also to personal relationships with our families, partners, parents or children. For me, intimacy goes beyond just the trust that can exist between people, whether they are family or friends because it is linked to feelings in my view. I cannot have an intimate relationship with someone if there is no trust, as well as the levels of intimacy with each person, which can vary.

For example, my best friend and I share personal information that I can hardly share with my father or brother, and even my mother because the level of trust and respect with them is different. I would most likely confide in my best friend about the smallest details of how I might have left on a drinking night or a date, but I would only tell my father what drinks I had or what food I had for dinner. When we have a partner the levels of intimacy are intensified in every way because the levels of trust are intensified, and all this will depend on how comfortable we can feel with that person.

Personally, it's been a long time since I've experienced intimacy with a partner, and the truth is that it's not something that worries me or makes me feel bad because as I said at the beginning, intimacy is not synonymous with sexuality, let's say that feeling intimate with someone is not something that fills me up or that I need to live quietly (maybe I'm wrong!). On the other hand, I have the company of my parents, siblings, and especially my son, with their well-defined degrees of trust and intimacy that I really feel comfortable with.

I have managed to achieve a fairly high degree of trust with my parents over time and as I have matured, which has made me feel so calm that I don't miss out on friendships. I think this has also been thanks to some blows in life, so to speak, where I have been able to realize that many times we come to establish bonds of intimacy with the wrong people.

Just as the levels of intimacy can vary (or at least that's how I see it), the ability to satisfy it varies from person to person. Since many people confuse the terms and define intimacy as a sexual relationship, many feel that they do not satisfy that need if there is no such relationship. In my personal case, my intimate relationship with my friends, for example, has not been completely effected, because we continue to have telephone contact, of course nothing compares to a good hug, or the sound of laughter from your friends, however, we have been able to keep that communication intact and above all the love.

La intimidad no siempre conlleva a sexualidad, y creo que muchas personas confunden estos términos, la intimidad puede estar ligada a una relación de amistad o de confianza muy estrecha, o también a las relaciones personales con nuestras familias, pareja, padres o hijos. Para mí la intimidad va más allá que solo la confianza que puede existir entre personas, bien sean familia o amigos, pues está ligada a sentimientos a mi manera de ver. No puedo tener una relación intima con alguien si no existe confianza, así como también los niveles de intimidad con cada persona pueden variar.

Por ejemplo, mi mejor amiga y yo compartimos información personal que difícilmente puedo compartir con mi padre o con mi hermano, e incluso con mi madre, pues el nivel de confianza y respeto con ellos es diferente. Es muy probable que le confiese a mi mejor amiga los mínimos detalles de cómo pudo haberme ido en una noche de copas o en una cita, sin embargo, a mi padre solo le diría que bebidas consumí o que comida cene. Cuando tenemos una pareja los niveles de intimidad se intensifican en todos los sentidos, pues los niveles de confianza se van intensificando, y todo esto ira en función de lo cómodo que podamos sentirnos con esa persona.

Personalmente hace mucho rato que no experimento lo que es la intimidad con una pareja, y la verdad es que no es algo que me preocupe o que me haga sentir mal, pues como lo dije en un principio, la intimidad no es sinónimo de sexualidad, digamos que sentirme en intimidad con alguien no es algo que me llene o que me haga falta para vivir tranquila (¡Tal vez estoy en un error!). Por otro lado, tengo la compañía de mis padres, hermanos y sobre todo la de mi hijo, con sus grados de confianza e intimidad bien definidos y con las que realmente me siento cómoda.

He logrado con el paso del tiempo y la madurez, conseguir un grado de confianza bastante alto con mis padres, lo que me ha hecho sentirme tan tranquila al punto de no extrañar amistades, esto también creo que se ha dado gracias a algunos golpes de la vida, por así decirlo, en donde me he podido dar cuenta que muchas veces llegamos a establecer vínculos de intimidad con las personas equivocadas.

Así como los niveles de intimidad pueden variar (o al menos así lo veo yo) la capacidad para satisfacerla varia según cada persona, pues en vista de que muchos confunden los términos y definen intimidad como una relación sexual, muchos sienten que no satisfacen esa necesidad si no existe dicha relación. En mi caso personal, mi relación de intimidad con mis amistades, por ejemplo, no se ha visto del todo afectado, pues continuamos teniendo el contacto telefónico, claro está nada se compara con un buen abrazo, o el sonido de las risas de tus amigos, sin embargo, hemos podido mantener esa comunicación intacta y sobre todo el cariño.
