Hoy he regresado para participar en la maravillosa y entretenida iniciativa de @ecotrain que se trata de responder a la pregunta de la semana, esta vez girando alrededor del juicio. Y debo decir que he estado disfrutando mucho de participar en esta dinámica, así que doy las gracias por su creatividad que está incentivando a la mía.
Greetings to the entire ecoTrain community, how are you? Today I have returned to participate in the wonderful and entertaining initiative of @ecotrain which is about answering the question of the week, this time revolving around judgement. And I must say that I have been really enjoying participating in this dynamic, so I thank you for your creativity that is encouraging mine.
Los seres humanos somos complejos – Human beings are complex
Los seres humanos tendemos a olvidar que somos complejos, ¿cómo se describe por completo a una persona? Somos un conjunto de elementos que si los intentáramos resumir nos terminaríamos quedando cortos, probablemente. Todo eso, es lo que nos hace a nosotros ser nosotros entre un sinfín de personas, nos diferencia los unos de los otros más allá de nuestra apariencia física. Por ello resulta complicado, diría hasta imposible, el tratar de resumir la esencia de alguien, lo que representa, basándonos en un momento y acción determinada, como se pretende en la actualidad. No es extraño entonces que se cometan día tras día errores y malos entendidos si las personas se están empeñando en asumir rápido señalando a los demás sin detenerse un momento a pensar, a mirar con un poco más de amplitud de la que les permite ese pensamiento cerrado del que hacen gala sin pena alguna.
We human beings tend to forget that we are complex, how do you describe a person completely? We are a set of elements that if we tried to summarize them we would probably end up falling short. All of this is what makes us who we are among an endless number of people, what differentiates us from each other beyond our physical appearance. That is why it is complicated, I would even say impossible, to try to summarize the essence of someone, what he or she represents, based on a specific moment and action, as it is currently intended. It is not strange then that mistakes and misunderstandings are made day after day if people are determined to assume quickly pointing fingers at others without stopping for a moment to think, to look with a little more amplitude than that which allows them the closed thinking they flaunt without any shame.
Lo que juzgamos está ligado estrechamente con nosotros, esa manera en la que vemos y sentimos el mundo a nuestro alrededor, porque a partir de una serie de pensamientos personales, estereotipos y generalidades concebidas a raíz de esas experiencias a las cuales hemos sido sometidos por la vida, creamos como un molde con el que comparamos a los demás… algo ridículo considerando que cada quien vive como quiere de acuerdo a una serie de factores que no tienen que ver precisamente con lo que nosotros pensamos ni sentimos, entonces ¿por qué debería ser relevante? La respuesta a esto es que no lo es, juzgar a los demás no sirve sino para hacernos daño los unos a los otros y es una práctica que debería de abandonarse, aunque tristemente en la realidad ha ido en aumento.
What we judge is closely linked to us, that way in which we see and feel the world around us, because from a series of personal thoughts, stereotypes and generalities conceived as a result of those experiences to which we have been subjected by life, we create a mold with which we compare others... something ridiculous considering that everyone lives as they want according to a series of factors that have nothing to do precisely with what we think or feel, so why should it be relevant? The answer to this is that it is not, judging others only serves to hurt each other and it is a practice that should be abandoned, although sadly in reality it has been increasing.
Hemos estado en los dos lados – We've been on both sides
Creo que ninguna persona se escapa de haber sido juzgada en algún momento de su vida, todos hemos sido apuntados con el dedo y criticados por algo que hemos hecho, quizás algo que no hicimos. Sin embargo también hemos sido la persona que señala, hemos juzgado a los demás incluso sin proponérnoslo. La facilidad al juzgar es una de las razones por las que debemos poner un poco de esfuerzo en pensar con detenimiento lo que vamos a decir antes de hablar para evitar un gran daño, aunque es importante también cambiar nuestra línea de pensamiento en general, porque eso que nos guardamos de alguna manera afecta aunque no se lo estemos transmitiendo a la otra persona pues inconscientemente cambiamos nuestra forma de relacionarnos con ella y sí llega a resultar evidente, resaltándose entonces el poder de esas energías negativas que a veces hasta sin darnos cuenta transmitimos al juzgar.
I believe that no person escapes being judged at some point in their lives, we have all been pointed at and criticized for something we have done, perhaps something we did not do. However, we have also been the person who points the finger, we have judged others even without intending to do so. The ease in judging is one of the reasons why we should put some effort in thinking carefully what we are going to say before speaking to avoid great damage, although it is also important to change our line of thought in general, because what we keep somehow affects even if we are not transmitting it to the other person because unconsciously we change our way of relating to them and it becomes evident, highlighting then the power of these negative energies that sometimes even without realizing it we transmit when we judge.
En el pasado acostumbraba a juzgar a los demás a pesar de lo mal que lo pasaba yo cuando era quien estaba siendo juzgada, tuve que aprender mucho sobre eso de que todos somos diferentes y eso es maravilloso porque cada persona es un mundo en sí mismo, los seres humanos nacimos para ser nosotros mismos, diferentes al resto, con nuestras ideas y sentimientos. Me ayudó de sobremanera entender eso, porque al comprender que los demás no tienen tus mismos sueños y aspiraciones, no tuvieron la misma crianza, han tenido que lidiar con una serie de problemas diferentes y por ello no tienen las mismas necesidades, terminas por asimilar que esos pequeños detalles son los que hacen que tomemos decisiones distintas respecto a todo, y eso no tiene por qué estar mal, porque uno mismo lo hace a diario.
In the past I used to judge others in spite of how bad I had it when I was the one being judged, I had to learn a lot about that we are all different and that is wonderful because each person is a world in itself, human beings were born to be ourselves, different from the rest, with our ideas and feelings. It helped me a lot to understand that, because when you understand that others do not have your same dreams and aspirations, did not have the same upbringing, have had to deal with a series of different problems and therefore do not have the same needs, you end up assimilating that those small details are what make us make different decisions about everything, and that does not have to be wrong, because you do it yourself every day.
Es entonces a partir de tratar de entender a los demás, dejar a un lado esa concepción egoísta de pensar que el mundo gira alrededor de nosotros, que se puede empezar el proceso de no juzgar a los demás, en esto está incluida la empatía a la cual me gusta hacer siempre referencia porque la considero muy importante y algo de lo que muchos carecen en esta sociedad de hoy en día. A partir de tratar de comprender los sentimientos y situaciones que enfrentan las otras personas, podemos entender mejor las razones por las cuales toman ciertas decisiones con las que nosotros podríamos estar en desacuerdo, eso en definitiva nos permite tener mayor perspectiva y tacto a la hora de emitir nuestras opiniones y pensar de una manera distinta lejos de simplemente juzgar al otro. Sin embargo, es necesario el estar abiertos plenamente al hecho de que cada uno es diferente y no centraros en nosotros mismos, de lo contrario resulta difícil eliminar esos juicios que perjudican. Esto fue a decir verdad lo que me ayudó a mejorar para poco a poco juzgar menos a los demás, no fue un trabajo rápido sino un proceso que todavía sigo puesto que hay veces que juzgo sin ser consciente de ello, pero trato de corregirlo y no permitirme al menos emitir comentarios que vayan a dañar a los demás.
It is then from trying to understand others, leaving aside that selfish conception of thinking that the world revolves around us, that we can begin the process of not judging others, this includes empathy which I always like to refer to because I consider it very important and something that many lack in today's society. From trying to understand the feelings and situations that other people face, we can better understand the reasons why they make certain decisions with which we might disagree, that ultimately allows us to have more perspective and tact when issuing our opinions and think in a different way away from simply judging the other. However, it is necessary to be fully open to the fact that everyone is different and not to focus on ourselves, otherwise it is difficult to eliminate those damaging judgments. This was to tell the truth what helped me to improve to gradually judge others less, it was not a quick work but a process that I still follow since there are times that I judge without being aware of it, but I try to correct it and not allow myself at least to issue comments that are going to harm others.
Nos juzgamos a nosotros mismos también – We judge ourselves too
No solamente juzgamos a los demás, sino también a nosotros. Puedo decir por experiencia que podemos llegarnos a juzgar a nosotros mismos más de lo que lo hacemos con los demás, y con muchísimo más daño. Si el proceso de aprender a no juzgar a otros puede llegar a ser difícil, el de aprender a tratarte con cuidado y a no llenarte a ti mismo de pensamientos negativos es el doble de complicado en mi opinión, tanto, que por lo menos en mi caso necesité de unas cuantas sesiones de terapia para que no se me saliera de las manos y pudiese ir aprendiendo a no criticarme con tanta saña, a lidiar con las expectativas de los demás y las mías de tal manera para no autodestruirme cuando no podía alcanzarlas. La imagen que creamos de nosotros mismo es importante, y aquel molde al cual hacía referencia con anterioridad, ese que aplica de igual manera a nosotros para compararnos con la concepción que tenemos sobre lo que deberíamos ser, deberíamos quizás tomárnoslo como una de las tantas posibilidades de lo que podríamos llegar a ser, entendiendo que somos seres humanos al final del día.
Not only do we judge others, but we also judge ourselves. I can say from experience that we can judge ourselves more than we judge others, and with far more damage. If the process of learning not to judge others can be difficult, learning to treat yourself with care and not to fill yourself with negative thoughts is twice as complicated in my opinion, so much so, that at least in my case I needed a few therapy sessions so that it would not get out of hand and I could learn not to criticize myself so viciously, to deal with the expectations of others and myself in such a way so as not to self-destruct when I could not reach them. The image we create of ourselves is important, and that mold to which I referred earlier, the one that applies equally to us to compare ourselves with the conception we have of what we should be, we should perhaps take it as one of the many possibilities of what we could become, understanding that we are human beings at the end of the day.
