Hello everyone,
Today I'd like to share with you our progress on the cob floor for our Tipi.
March marked our one yer anniversary from starting this project.
One year...
Just to be clear, our estimate to finish the floor was 3-4 months . This was of course unrealistic, not because it takes longer to build the floor, but because of the actual time we can spend on the land building it.
Granted, we are sourcing the materials from the land, by hand.. So it certainly takes longer than it could..
But still, what with raising our son, running our company, and working on side projects (like my podcast DZP #selfplug ) we only actually make it to work on the land about 5-10 hours a week.
So, Like I said to my wife long before we ever got to Portugal, it takes patience...
Lots and lots of patience.
And digging. A hell of a lot of digging too..
But, the reward for patience is that one day, suddenly, you reach a milestone. (in our case its quite literally a stone, for example the last rock for the filter layer.)
As I'm writing these words we have the Tipi standing, but the floor is missing its final layer.
We did this to ensure the rain and sun won't prevent the floor from drying properly. Once the floor is completely finished we will take down the Tipi (AGAIN) , fix all the mistakes we made the last time we lifted it, and raise it for the 3rd,and hopefully final time (for this round...)
So that's our update.
Stay tuned for the video coming soon (when I have the time) where I explain the floor's unique design and how (we hope) it will work with the Tipi's design.
