Producing spring onion is not a tough job. But the story changes a little bit when I talk about growing it on a balcony, on a small pot. I never tried producing this before but as they are one of my favorite vegetables so this time I decided to grow some on my own.
No need to say, winter is the time to have the best taste of spring onion. We usually buy this from the market. But this year when I saw one of my neighbors is producing onion on their balcony, it also inspired me to have some.
Let me share the process so if you are interested you can easily follow.
We need some spouted onions, a place to put the onions. They don't space, you can grow up to 10 in a small pot. Place them near to one another, put some soil over them and add enough water.
I placed them like this. It takes only a week to get a handful of onion leaves.
The best thing is, you can cut off the leaves and they will grow again.
After five days.
After one week.
I prepared the soil by adding some eggshell crashes and some banana water. That's it. As I said, they don't need much care but will grow pretty fine.
After 10 days. Finally, decided to cut some off and add to my cooking.
I can't explain how happy I was feeling. Growing up in a city, I never had the chance to produce myself on my own or had any experience of farming. But now I produce some vegetables and herbs; it's nothing much but it means a lot to me.
After cutting them off.
I hope they will grow again after a few days. I planted some more onions in a different pot after seeing this success. Hopefully, they will also grow fine.
Yesterday, I added some onion leaves to one of the dishes I shared in my previous post. Also, later I added some with my noodles. They sure enhanced the taste.
I feel blessed to have this opportunity to produce something on my own.
The process is very simple, you can try it too.
